 Re: Music?
since I'm dying for a new Black Mountain album to come out, I've been going back to some related stuff: the Pink Mountaintop's album "Axis of Evol." they're nothing like BM, but it's the same dude who leads both bands.
also got into a major Big Black spell a few weeks ago...sometimes I forget how good records are until I hear them again after a long break. I never really dug "Songs About Fucking" but I ended up playing it nonstop for days. I had always preferred the earlier stuff...
I finally really listened to Sleep's "Dopesmoker" the whole way through for the first time. such a good record...sad I didn't give it more attention years ago.
new Melvins in June...waiting.

 Re: Music?
Just picked up Ludacris' new one. Battle of the Sexes. I'm not really a fan of many current rappers, but Ludas over-sexed bangers alway take me back in time to being 18 and in the club.

Joe wrote: I can't get into the new Gorillaz album... Give it some time. It's a little overwhelming. I'll bet it'll grow on you. Maybe not, but as I recall "Demon Days," took some time to sink in with me. I love the Lou Reed track. I'd sort of given up on the old man but his cynical vocal on that song is perfect. I'm still liking Massive Attack's "Heligoland" for its weird song structures and dark mood. Got a pre-release of the forthcoming Balkan Beat Box album from an industry buddy. It's amazing, their best yet. Much more political, cohesive, and song-oriented than their prior two, but still high energy, still mixing genres like it's second nature. I think it'll be out in mid-April. "Blue Eyed Black Boy," keep your eyes peeled if you like that sort of thing.

 Re: Music?
I can't get into ANY Gorillaz album. I feel like the only one and I'm OK with that. I've been listening to Gama Bomb a lot because they make me laugh. I've also been listening to the Mean Jeans pretty steady for more good fun. Oh, and this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZ3j0XjTjs8 (yeah it's work safe just not soul safe)

Joe wrote: I can't get into the new Gorillaz album... My complaint with the new Gorillaz album (besides too many guest vocals) is the lack of dub style beats and all the around lack of guitar. There are a few things on there that sound very familiar to me, but I just can't recall where some of those synth lines were lifted from. I don't listen to the Black Eyed Peas or similar acts, but I feel that some of the new songs could have been made by those type of groups. Maybe if they do another dub remix album with the Space Monkeyz I will like it more.

 Re: Music?
Yeah, It is good. I like the sax, it fits great. As for Belus, I doubted that he could pull it off but it is more than great, it is a lesson in perfect BM, in every artistic aspects. Shining VI /Ksfgrgdsmer is also worthy of attention. I had lost hope in this project but must admit that this dislikable dude as some talent. Finntroll's Nifelvind is really great. They shed off all the weak Moonsorrow influences they had on them the last few years. New Borknagar, meh. In a completely different style is Malachai. I don't remember the name of the cd rigth now .. At first you think it's rock but it is'nt. It feature Geof Barrow on a couple of track. It is amazingly good.

 Re: Music?
Gave Burzum a listen - not bad but there wasn't much difference from past albums. Frankly Varg's views have tainted my views on him. If the music was more impressive then I'd have probably picked it up but for now it's a once-in-a-while listen. Currently abusing my ears to (all links go to Lala, where you can listen to the albums): PriestessArch Enemy who I really love and flipped finally seeing last month. Opeth A few more weeks to see them again!!! August Burns Red solid album Oh, SleeperFirewindDark TranquilityAnthrax Only State of Euphoria and older! Amorphis Love these guys! Arsis opened for Arch Enemy and had me wishing I had hair! Bangin'! Katatonia I read an interview with the lead singer from Opeth who said the new Katatonia album was the best thing he heard in the last 20 years. He was pretty damn close. Amazing! ImmolationNachtmystiumISISOkay, so the list can go on forever. I have a really voracious appetite for metal - I have something like 70 GB of metal albums and growing...let alone what I have on vinyl and CDs. A really good start for music is also trying out stuff on Century Media. Their comps really spotlight some solid metal and they do a monthly podcast that's worth listening to (search "century media" in iTunes). One comp they put out that I really love is Covering 20 years of Extremes! Basically CM had a ton of their bands do covers of their favorite bands. Arch Enemy's cover of Dream Evil's Book of Heavy Metal kills and the Heaven Shall Burn version of Tiamat's Whatever that Hurts is simply amazing. A must hear is the Architect's cover of Stampin' Ground's Officer Down! Hoo Whee, that one really gets the blood going and on non-metal days: Shot BakerSquirrel Bait Husker Du ( Powerline = one of the best songs) Pegboy Naked Raygun Big Black Rapeman Laughing Hyenas *any of the old Touch and Go bands before the label turned pussy.

Ahhh good taste here. Do you have Brannon's Easy Action albums ? I have the first one. I'm still trying to track down the second one. Give Belus a second chance. The old school vibe is amazing. It's a relaxing album. Of course is view on things is hasardous, then again, if you give attention to that, your fuck with R. Strauss, Wagner, Orff etc.

 Re: Music?
No Problem Just saw him live for the first time at Harvest of Hope. He was incredibly powerful and inspiring - just him, his Telecaster, two Fender amps (Blues DeVille?) and his stage chatter. He did Ingrid Bergman (Woodie Guthrie song he did with Wilco - singing starts around 6min mark, lots of story telling before) and Stetson Kennedy - he said he had actually had breakfast that morning with the man who happens to live right around the area. I'm not an anti-flag fan but he did two or three Clash songs w/ them. That was fun. Scary Andy wrote: Thanks for making me feel less 'out of the loop' than usual!

Wanting to uprade from tapes to CD - I just got The Rules of Hell box set, from Sabbath's Dio years. I had'nt heard the Dehumanizer album before (I stoped following after Born Again) and I'm pretty floored by it. Man ! Also, album of the month Bleak-punkish-noise-blacker-than-black black metal
