BoBoBo is silly, but fun. One I've REALLY enjoyed reading is "Oishinbo". It's a cooking/cuisine manga, but I really enjoy reading it. Viz Signature looks like has some interesting stuff coming out: http://www.sigikki.com/

Just finished the Oishinbo series and it was great. Probably one of my favorite series. Very simple to read and I really liked the culinary tips

I just picked up Cat Eyed Boy but heard it's not that good.

If anyone can recommend something surreal (along the lines of Miyazaki) that would be great.

Oishinbo is great. If you like "food manga" that go a little deeper, you must look up
Kazuichi Hanawa' Doing time (basicaly, retelling what he ate while in prison)

Hopefully, Jirō Taniguchi's Kodoku no gurume will be translated to english someday, as it was in french.
"Solitary gourmet" if you wish.
It is one of those book that bring tears to your eyes, like about all the manga he freakin' does.

I don't know if they've been translated, but some of my all-time favorites are:
Matsumoto Taiyou's "Hana Otoko" (Flower man?)

Image

Nihei Tsutomu's "Blame"

Image

Nananan Kiriko's "Kabocha to Mayonaise" (Pumpkin and Mayonnaise?)

Image

Saku Yukizou's "Hakuba no Oujisama" (The Prince with the White Horse?)

Image

and Tono Saho's Twinkle.

Oh and I actually have quite a few Japanese language mangas I'd trade for toys... Hit me up if you want a list.

Blame is great but sometimes the art is a little confusing between transitions.
I am a huge Matsumoto Taiyo fan but I just wish someone translated the No.5 series.
I have the original Japanese versions, but really want to know the story in its entirety.

"Azumanga Daioh" ftw.
Only four books, & there's an Omnibus edition in English.
... Teh essence of 'kawaii'! :D

But what's up with onemanga.com ?
It's been down for weeks ...

Biomega started off great, but it turned reaaaaaally surreal really fast.

Btw, his last series is utter crap. Complete change of style. Very otaku-esque.

I'm lost in manga-land these days so the suggestions are appreciated. Just ordered the first volume of Oishinbo. Something tells me I'm gonna get addicted...

You can drink manga-based sake while reading sake-based manga, if you like...

Available from TrueSake in San Francisco here in the USA.

Just followed the newer books of Gantz saga (the ones that came out last year?). Its getting to epic proportions which is a nice change to the story. Thank the fan translations!!!

Post Re: M*A*N*G*A*
I was reading some old thread during my lunch break and came to this funny conclusion, 5 of the 7 characters that gave the name to S7 come from the creations of manga artists :

Tetsuwan Atom (Astro Boy) / Tetsujin-28 / Mazinger Z
Kamen Rider / Kikaider (this one was not originaly in mangas)

The other 2 being Ultraman and Godzilla.
Barom 1 could have been there also.
These guys were awesome !
