I hate clowns.

they are banned from any birthday party for my kids.

I dont blame you always something very weird about them

I don't mind clowns. However, ALL mimes can burn in hell.

Anyone besides me remember the Bobcat Goldthwaite movie "Shakes The Clown"?
He actually said "This is the finest alcoholic clown movie that I have ever made".
It had some great moments.
But yeah, they're creepy.

One of my younger brothers was a clown in the Ringling Bros circus for a number of years. He went by the clown name Pogo same as John Wayne Gacy. Yes, picked that name on purpose. Now he is a boring electrician with a wife and kids. I'll invite him to all your birthday parties.

I actually have that on DVD, haven't watched it in probably 10 yrs., but I remember it as quite bizarre and somehow never could bring myself to sell it. That's probably the only kind of clown I don't find scary - alcoholic clowns.

I just find them ugly and not amusing.

And um, I blush to even bring it up, but:

My girlfriend hates clowns with a passion, ever since she was very little (like 2-3). I used to have crazy dreams about clowns killing me in amusement parks when I was little, so yeah, they're pretty scary. Then one day I had a dream where I ran over them all while I was on a rollercoaster or something and from that day forth I loved rollercoasters.

Clowns are scary.

i have encountered several types of clowns which i will describe here in brief detail:
1. As a kid, people I knew would be randomly dressed as clowns for school events--teachers, parents, older kids, etc. This kills the illusion to some extent as the makeup doesn't really hide the real person. Since that is its intent, right? The clown makeup and crazy outfit serves to utterly mask the wearer so that he can be viewed as a human object whose function is humorous blundering (with or without mime effects).
So while having the illusion of a "pure clown entity" was taken from me early, it opened up a new possiblity. One day, I could be a clown if I wanted to do so. I'm 65% sure that I did not choose that for my life.

2. Ringling Bros clowns are the SHIT. If you think they suck, you are mistaken. They are strange acrobat freaks. But since they are fairly far away from you on the stage when you are in the audience, they have less cause to be as disturbing as a clown at a birthday party or walking freely amongst the people at a county fair.

3. Old school French clowns and mimes that originated the form that evolved into the current paleface, weepy-eyed hobo with oversized shoes are pretty cool. If you can find some old film footage of clowns, its much more slapstick a la Chaplin, Keaton, Lloyd but mixed with a heavy dose of mime. The origins of the clown form are pretty fascinating. I mean, who tells children its okay to talk with strange hobos in ill-fitting attire? Joviality equaled harmlessness in a simpler era. The poor were people too back then. Now the poor are only people if they have a college degree.
But I digress.....

I don't mind clowns. Grew up in the age of Ronald McDonald. Cat burglers and big puple monsters are alright in my book too.
