gangsta rap is a genre of literary expression and should not be seen as always reflecting the rapper's past reality. supporting murder, gang life and crack dealing is just as promoted by the fictions of Law and Order, CSI, etc. content is not necessarily truth, and when me and all my people weeples start slinging editorial with some Wu, murdering and ho's are part of the elements of the content and I don't particularly see this music as promoting them. hate speech is one thing, but gangsta rap topics, while violent and at times deplorable, are meant to create a musical scene that tells a story.

Aint that the truth! She didnt however "Vanilla Ice" the song for me. I listen to Combat Rock probably more than any other clash album at this point.

One thing to note is that I tihnk shes an art school/performance art type (correct me if im wrong) so to judge her strictly on her singing is missing the mark. Kind of like saying old Kaiju sculpts are crappy.

I dont particularly love her but shes definitely interesting at least.

PS I didnt find anything particularly shocking about this video. The kid getting shot was whatever. But I guess were not the target audience.

I don't know if it was botched per se, but when The Good, The Bad, and The Queen played "Guns of Brixton" as an encore piece during their tour, it was basically unrecognizable. With Paul Simonon on bass, no less.

I took the time to watch it completely. It's like what Metallica wanted to do with The Day That Never Comes video but did'nt had the balls.

It's a bit over the top and not for kids - just like most of what seem popular in movies for me (Tarantino's utter crap for exemple). I don't see why MIA's taking the shit more the filmmaker
other than the track is a borefest.

You know the music seemed incidental to be background music for the "shocking content" but shes done video art for a long time so maybe shes just making art disguised as a music video... pretty rad if thats her plan.
