 OriginalFake **UPDATE**
I pulled the below quote from kix-files.com
Looks like the Dissected Kaws will be dropping in October:
"As we revealed the news about Dissected Kaws Companions earlier, the Dissected Kaws Companions is confirmed to launch. And just check out Original Fake today, the site has updated with the latest pics of the Dissected Kaws Companions model. From the word of Kaws Hong Kong Newsgroup group master, Brian Donnelly, the companions will drop in Japan in October. Stay tuned for more news at kix-files!"

To build excitement and anticipation.
It's part of a process called marketing.

Sorry, but I don't get it. I didn't like the Twins thing either, and (to me) this is even less aesthetically appealing. Doesn't seem particularly clever, either. In all seriousness, if anyone wants to chime in and say why they like it, I'd be interested.

Well to be all honest, haven't you ever just liked something .... well.... just because.
The 5YL is my all time favorite toy .... ever. The sculpt the size and there is just something about them in person that you cant feel in pictures. So this is just another varient on it. It looks cool without a ryhme or reason to me. I guess I'm just bias for the 5YL so my opinion here isn't really gonna help much for you
I think it has something to do with mickey being a childhood icon for me. So when I first started collecting the 5YL was one if not the first toy that made me buy toys.
Also I dont like the 99 companions and people who collect KAWS think I'm nutty but it just wasnt my era of mickey I guess.
But I will say I'm not crazy about the twins either. I liked them at first but the size kinda killed it for me. If they where 5YL size I might have picked up a set.
I just hope after this KAWS take a break.

This would be the first Kaws piece that I actively try and get ahold of. I think besides some of the handpainted Kaws/Pus pieces this thing is amazing and IMO the most interesting.
I like it for a number of reasons:
I am personally interested in anatomical imagery, medical drawings etc.
I really like the idea of a cultural icon like Mickey Mouse being dissected. Mickey has long been given human traits, emotions etc. so why not anatomy as well?
I have a real interest in things that simultaneously deal with attraction/repulsion. The cute, friendly and familiar Mickey mixed with death, dissection, anatomy.
My two cents...

I have two Companions, I could see picking up the other colour as a Dissection.
If there's a set of three, I'm not going to pick up the set. At a certain point, it just gets ridiculous. I also think the effect of the figure would be dimished by multiples in different colourways.
I see it as somewhat similar to the colourways of some of the Skullbees like the SDCC one. The figure is sliced in half (by colour for the Skullbees) and looks dramatically different from different angles. Also kind of ties into the layers and innards that you see with Japanese toys, and I appreciate.
In my opinion, not particularly clever in Kaws case, but aesthetically appealing.

Cool. Thanks a lot, those are all valid points, and I can definitely see the logic behind them. I love the 5YL's as well, I have a GID one and if I had the $ I'd get the rest. IMO it's a classic design, very creative.
I can also see the point about anthropomorphism being taken to the logical extreme - a great idea, when you look at it that way. I think I would like it more if it was more symmetrical (like the 5YL) ie: all dissected, rather than half. But that's just me.
Thanks for the responses.

I agree I think I would like it more also if it where totaly skinless. That would be much better.

It looks very intricate. I also hope that it doesn't come out in many colorways. The original brown would be ideal.
Wouldn't it be cool if the outer "shell" were clear vinyl with the inner anatomy showing? THAT would be nice.

I think this figure is going to appeal almost exclusively to people who already collect Kaws, especially to people who own 5YLs. I don't think this release is going to draw in many new collectors.

I know they set a date for the twins... but did kawsone ever send out an email on them? i never got one (& I got a kaws x pus when they landed )
the fact that this guy is asymmetrical though... i don't think it would look well displayed with other stuff. it would look nice by itself though IMO

O I beg to differ I have a nice little spot ready for him I think he will work with my red collection.
And if not like you said it will work alone
And I got the emails for everything except the woodbe@rbrick. But I only got them the night before.

I don't have any of the Kaws vinyl toys, as I'm not on top of things enough to get them for original retail price. But I have to say, I can see myself hunting this one down. I saw the photos of the giant one in the OF store... and the giant statue looked awesome. I like it because it combines the Kaws character with the old "Visible Man" model kits.
I would like to see this with the original brown colorway, but with full-color organs.
All in all, most of Kaws stuff is a twist on a pre-existing icon. This is the same, but it is combining two.

But if this is for the Original Fake store, emails won't matter b/c it will only be for sale in Japan (or aftermarkrt) like the green Pushead.

I say "its" because the reproductive organs are still a mystery.

I think this is pretty cool, I have a couple of the 5YL's and I really like that figure, I can see the point made about the non symetry, it would be really cool if it had full regular companion skin that you could pop off to find the skinless figure underneath, and then you could pop it's organs out like those medical displays, that would be great.
Do you think you can pop the organs out of this one?
I like it.

I LOVE this, and owning all the 5YL's its a must have for me. So, anyone hear when this is dropping, let me know.
PS. Last weekend I finally for the 1000% Kaws Mickey - so excited to score that one!
