This might get me to listen to Boris again, just to see if it works.

Fuck yes Chad. 07-24 San Diego, CA - The Casbah. I think it's the second night of the tour so it should be awesome. I am not sure how to get tix yet but maybe one of our San Diego affiliates could help us out. Who else is in?

Post Re: Boris with Ian Astbury
The Cult always were consummate bandwagon-jumpers.
They came from the "Batcave" scene, a goth nite in London that produced NO GOOD BANDS
(with the notable exception of Alien Sex Fiend.)
"Southern Death Cult" is one of the most appalling records I've ever heard,
and if they hadn't lifted the style & imagery of their later years straight from The Sisters Of Mercy & The Mission
they'd never have gained any recognition at all.
Now Ian Astbury thinks he's Jim Morrison.
God give me strength.

I remember one night back in '86/'87, the Television Personalities played at my local watering hole.
The place was heaving, as TVP's gigs were something of a rarity.
The final number was "Salvador Dali's Garden Party",
a much beatier & poppier affair back then than the version they ultimately recorded.

Daniel Treacy ran through the usual list of celebs:
"Jack Nicholson was there; Mia Farrow was there; Andy Warhol was there; Bridget Riley was there ... " etc.

But suddenly it was:
"Ian Astbury was there; The Jesus & Marychain were there ..."
and, with a huge grin, then bassist Jowe Head hurled himself across the tiny stage
launching into the (admittedly awesome) riff from "She Sells Sanctuary"
while to the tune of "Just Like Honey" Dan Treacy intoned:
"Just want money; Just want money ... "

A truly acid moment. 8)
(I think it morphed into "Just want Mummy" too, but i don't remember so well.
I've still got it on tape somewhere - I'll have to dig it out.)

Oh, and just a note to BORIS :
I heard Damo Suzuki's working again ...

I know of the Batcave, even if I never got to go there.

I have seen Alien Sex Fiend but not Specimen, Sisters, or The Mission.

How can you say Electric jumps bandwagons? I like some of the first album but not as much as Electric.

I had a roomate in college that was a big Southern Death Cult fan but I liked Bauhaus better.

Dude, when did Astbury not think he was Morrison? You can see this as far back as the early '80s...Personally, I would have liked to have seen his Doors impersonation just for the fact that he has always wanted to be Morrison. But it was a novelty and as long as you realized that, what was the harm?

Yes, I definately hear AC/DC but I think it works well mixed with Goth.

I wouldn't go and say The Cult were one of the greatest bands ever, but I feel like they had their place in bridging the gap between what were then considered "alternative" bands and the hair metal bands of the 80's. Love and Electric are still two albums I listen to somewhat regularly and still enjoy. And now, who is going to see BORIS on sat? I'm getting two tickets for me and Funnyara. Who else is in?

I could be wrong but I don't think Ian will be with Boris for the tour, although that shouldn't take away any of the fucking rock that will be at this show. BTW tickets are still available! Don't be a pussy, this shit will sell out!
