Post Undersea Agent - 14 Pieces Plastic Canvas (bottom post)
I posted a few of these in the Box of Fate thread, but here are some more. If anyone knows the trick to how to capture the dimensionality of these pieces with a camera, please let me know.
Separated by layers of clear plastic that range from millimeters to several centimeters, the images as layered have a really cool depth effect and the solidity of the plastic creates what I think is a pretty interesting art object. The depth effect is much more apparent in person and really aids the intent of the collages which is to re-contextualize the meaning of the imagery in an overt way.
I hope you like them.

Post Re: Plastic Canvas Collage Art
thanks guys. the newer pieces i'm finishing up are a bit more complex than most of these here. the clear plastic takes a full 24 hours to set, so it takes awhile to make one. ideally, i have about 3-6 of them in process at once with a completion time of several days.
here's one of my favorites from these: The Juice Says #1

Really cool! I like the Conan Koi best, the image is killer. Have you ever seen any of the "Planet of the Apes" comic covers? I think you can TOTALLY work well w/some of them.

I really like these and don't have a grasp on the weight or the thickness of these but I would love to see some of the Marvel 70's stuff in a circular paper weight. I'd buy a round paper weight one to put on my desk.

Very cool idea.

Post Re: Van Gogh's Apprentice - The Stalker - Rambo vs the A-Team
thanks for the compliments folks. the support really matters a lot and keeps me driven. with these plastic canvases, the format has really started to evolve nicely for me as i learn more about working with the different kinds of plastics involved. it's very different from making the toys and the margin for error sucks. when i screw up a piece with a silver age comic image, it can be cost ineffective to try and find another crappy version i'd be willing to desecrate.

shiverbones, thanks and nice to meet you. you come here often? how about buying a fella a drink?

kroker, cool piece. its not even offensive in my mind and makes reference to the fact that these toy guns were sold side-by-side in the comic books with real junior rifles.

the original mattel ad really emanates a hubristic sense of male-ness torn from the philosophy of 80's hollywood. with murderous fantasies of a glorious adulthood, young Billy shows his true grit on the playground, BRAAP, BRRA-A-A-AP!

bryce, the pieces vary on weight, but some can be pretty heavy. they definitely have a nice weight to them. i could angle a plastic base so that a circular one could face you on the desk (as opposed to lieing flat on the table with the image looking at the ceiling). that wouldn't be too hard. let me know what themes you are into and we'll see if i can't whip a lil paperweight up. you can check it out and if you don't want it, you don't have to buy/trade for it. i'd just put it up in the online store i'll be creating in the next few months.
:) bryce if you're still in south bay, i can show you the whole process as we have moved down here as well

i've got quite a bit more to show of these, but have just moved and must unpack and take pics. there are a bunch of other pieces in the flickr that i haven't posted here too. thanks again

As a fantatic collector of the early Conan/Krull Marvel comics books when I was a kid, I've got to say this piece is my favorite. I love to see all that old shit that made me happy as a kid mashed up into an exciting cultural mindfuck today. Awesome work!

Post Plastic Canvas Update- a lil bit now, a lot more coming
Been out of the loop for a bit, but here's a couple random pieces I made awhile back. Santa Claus one is still available.
All of these are 6"x3"

It's been clear for several years now that Saint Nick is an international gun for hire. His infiltration skills are beyond elite; his ability to acquire viable and accurate intel is beyond that of the most sophisticated espionage agencies.

The toy production must be funded and the extremely naughty must be punished....for a price and if you can find him, you can hire the Sleigh Team.

these two have been released to the wild-

I'm about 2/3 of the way done with my "Undersea Agent" series. 10 pieces are complete so far and I'll post some of them soon. The Undersea Agent pieces are meant to visually tell the tale of an underwater exploration both fantastic and dangerous as experienced by a young sailor in a fever dream following his rescue from a ship sunk by submarine in the Pacific seas. It's a bit bigger in scope than most of the pop stuff I've done using these materials.

Slim, these just keep getting weirder and cooler! Thanks for taking the time to show some of these off at the resin show and give me a little insight into how they're made.

Nice work, man. 8)
