From the guy who made Pusher 1,2, & 3
Valhalla Rising: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0862467/

Stutters somewhere between Aguirre, Blade Runner, and 300. Stylistically, I bet some US directors are going to rip it off, (though tip o' the rip to the hyperrealism of Frank Miller and Del Torro). Very minimalist, ++ cinematography, dialog is delivered so low I missed a lot of it. Anyway, I liked it. It's a real movie for real manly men. No joke! Not a good date movie (depends on the date I guess). If you haven't watched the Pusher series, you deserve what's pictured above!

this shit was crazy. i saw it at a festival a few months ago. people were getting up and leaving (not knowing what they were getting into apparently)

it's one of those films i have struggled with an underlying meaning in... because it really seems like something is there... but i havent had anyone to discuss it with to figure it all out

Oddly, I felt it held tight through to the end. Herzog's 'Aguirre: the Wrath of God' also tapers off into existential drone towards the end, but it works. In this, I guess I was thinking that the 'hero' One-Eye would redeem himself/europeans/whatever, late in the film. I think he was literally the king in the land of the blind. Was having visions that he and all of them would die, that they couldn't understand this new world etc. I had trouble placing the movie (relatively speaking) in history. I know Vikings are said to have set ground in North America long before other Europeans, but I don't think it was under the auspices of Christianity. Anyway, in light of the nightmare-like parts of the movie, the physical violence seems out of place. But I'm no viking, I just play one on TV.
