Yep...i'm underwhelmed.

Some nice bits and pieces for sure but it's a memory hog on my 3GS. Folders is a nice touch, alebit not executed brilliantly, the lock is great and the 'taskbar' element of running apps works really well.

But I can't help but think it will only ever run properly on the iPhone 4

Just had word from a techie friend saying not to bother . . . it runs like shit on the older phone.

First time he's ever downgraded back to older software.

a 3G or 3GS? There seems to be a huge difference on how it runs between those an also the latest gen iPod Touch.

How unlike Apple to try and force you to buy their latest shiny product to make it work

I put it on my 3G, but haven't had the time to really "road test" it. I do like the folders option, but found it incredibly maddening that there was no instructions on how to use/activate it (get your phone into "icon rearrangement" mode and then drag one icon on top of another to create a folder).

I'm noticing in my 3G it's a lot faster to load apps this morning and it's much more touch sensitive than it was before.
The bad thing, I don't get all of the features that the 3GS has available. Not a big deal, though, as I'll be getting the new phone this week I think.

^^ Yeah same here. I downloaded it last night for my 3Gs and everything is running quickly. It seems the camera is quicker, the apps open faster, overall its pretty good.

I have an iPod touch, 2nd generation, that I upgraded last night. The main feature I was hoping for, multitasking, isn't enabled for my device (it's only enabled for 3rd generation units), so I'm bummed about that, but at least I didn't pay for the upgrade.

The touch screen response time seems a little more refined, and apps seem to be loading a little more quickly. I like the fact that the email is now threaded (like Gmail). Otherwise, not much else I've noticed. There are some graphics enhancements enabled for game devlopers that may pop up later.

Love the folder option! Can you have more then 9 apps in a folder?

No problems on my 3GS!

It's nice to be able to listen to Pandora and do other stuff :)

Post Re: anyone update their iPhone to iOS4?
My biggest complaint is that I have to quit apps for them not to be running in the multi-tasking area now. I understand why and I'm sure it will eventually become second nature to quit apps. Other than that, I'm happy with things. Much quicker.

Sidenote: Got notified that my iPhone 4 has shipped and I'll be getting it a day early (tomorrow). Pretty happy about that.

From my visit to the AT&T store today it doesn't seem like I will be getting one anytime soon :(

Some video showing the speed hit a 3G takes when upgraded to OS4. Not sure if folders is worth the sluggishness.

funny, my 3g has been better today for the most part as far as typing goes. I did experience one crash when I ended a call, but I just started it back up again and it's been fine since.

is there a list of all the new features for iOS 4.0? i checked the apple site but they only show 12 new features but claimed that theres over 100 new features. im sure theyre really minor features but it would be great to know what they are and how to use them.

So far I'm really impressed, and have had no problems whatsoever on my 3GS. The first post kinda made me hesitate a little but it runs very smooth.

Closing an app IS gonna take a lot of getting used to. A lot!

I would've been happy to upgrade, up until I found out that there is no more Unlimited data plan. Now it's either $15/month option for 200MB of data or $25 for 2GB of data and an additional $10 for an extra gig if you go over. Guess I'm jailbreaking mine and moving to Verizon when my contract up or wait for the rumored Verizon iPhone.

from what i've heard if you already have the unlimited data plan you can keep it and upgrade to the iphone 4, but if you're a new att customer you get the 2gb plan. I think i saw it on engadget or tipb.com

Post Re: anyone update their iPhone to iOS4?
If you already have the unlimited, as long as you don't chnage your contract when you upgrade (keep the same amt. of minutes, etc.) then you retain your unlimited data.

I went for the iOS4 plunge on my 32 gb 3GS last night and am pretty happy so far. Once I figured out the workaround to get the image off of the homepage I was much happier. It seems smoother and faster when going between open web pages, home pages and apps. The camera shutter is definitley faster and the 5x Digital zoom is okay, but unneeded really, if you have a cropping app already.

The folders are great. Brought my eight pages of apps down to two and a few folders on a third page. And that's only because my OCD about change won't allow me to put anything on my home page in folders or change it at all.

Multitasking will only be truly useful once apps start updating to support it. Does no good to start loading something in my Twitter app, switch to load something on the internet and when I toggle back to Twittelator it starts loading all over again.

The only bad thing I've noticed so far is that sometimes, when trying to post in a forum thread it overlays the options area over the text box. You can still type, but you can't see what you're typing. This is a major blow to me since about 98% of my forum posting happens on my phone.

That said, I'm actually getting the iPhone 4 on Thursday anyway. I'm glad I upgraded my current phone now though, like I said, I don't like change, so this gives me a few days to get used to how the phone will operate before I have to start adapting to the design changes as well.

And if anyone wants to upgrade to a 3GS from a 3G, lemme know.
