Post Re: (Recommended) Places To Eat List
Beautiful day today so went out to Mission to eat w/ my friend.
Can't beat Rosamunde...
http://www.rosamundesausagegrill.com/
http://www.yelp.com/biz/rosamunde-sausa ... rancisco-2
followed by ice cream at Humphry Slocombe.
http://www.humphryslocombe.com/
http://www.yelp.com/biz/humphry-slocomb ... -francisco

My friend got the Sausage Plate w/ baked beans & salad.
Forgot which sausage she chose.
The baked beans weren't bad, had a heavy beer flavor to it.
I skipped the salad.

Image

I got myself the Mission Street sausage (all beef wrapped w/ bacon) topped w/ grilled onions and sweet peppers.
Wasn't bad but I think I liked the Duck I got last time better.

Image

I have to agree w/ Alex and say the Mission location is better.
It's nice to have seating, even though they're giant wooden tables w/ benches.
But sitting by the windows opened on a nice day watching people walk by is fun.

And not far is one of my favorite ice cream places in the city, Humphry Slocombe.

I regret it now, but I should have picked up their Duck Fat Pecan Pie.
Hopefully they'll have it still next time I stop by.

Image

My favorite combo, Blue Bottle Vietnamese Coffee & Secret Breakfast (bourbon & cornflakes).

When going to a new pizza place. Always get a plain cheese(w/garlic) of at least one type. It's the true test. Otherwise, if you ask me, it's a waste of weirdness.
Neopolitan/ Margherita or nothing.

Afterwards, get the friend egg, bacon, dried yak balls or whatever it is people are putting on pizza these days.

Speaking of Pizza....how is the Cheese Board's pizza shop? I was staring at it the last time I was at Chez Panisse. Seemed like a lot of people there.

Il Fornaio

For the record the food was pretty forgettable, aside from the panna cotta which was ok. Then again it was Ill fornaio so expectations were not so high.

You have me curious about the pizza at cheeseboard, and I can easily imagine sitting at chez panisse and looking longingly across the street!

At the moment, i can't imagine bourbon and cornflakes ice cream, but vietnamese coffee sounds excellent.

Have you been to Camino in Oakland?

I know it's not the best....but I've been going there since my brother went to Berkeley in the late 80's. More of a traditional than a craving.

haha, totally understand. everytime i go back home i need to get the mexican pizza at bj's suds and grubs. been eating it since i was in middle school! two cheeses, chorizo, avocado, jalapenos, refried beans instead of tomato sauce... i know it's a monstrosity, but i've always ordered it.

Yup. Also Bouchon Bakery!
First time to Yountville and won't be the last.
Had a blast hanging out w/ Alex and my friends.
Can't beat good food, conversation & company.

So we stopped by Bouchon Bakery before our reservation at Redd.
http://www.bouchonbakery.com/
http://www.yelp.com/biz/bouchon-bakery-yountville

Good thing we went before instead of after since they close at 7.

Image

I just had to get one each of all their Macarons.
They're the biggest ones I've ever seen.

Image

Their assorted baked goods all looked delicious.

Image

Here's Alex enjoying his Macaron.
I believe it was some Cherry Cheesecake flavor.

Image

Here's their Chocolate Bouchon, basically a brownie.

Image

If it weren't for the fact that we were suppose to be at Redd's already & then Ad Hoc later, I'd probably have tore through my box of Macarons and just sat outside pigging out.

Post Re: (Recommended) Places To Eat List
So our next stop is at Redd.
http://www.reddnapavalley.com/
http://www.yelp.com/biz/redd-yountville

Heard good things about the place and we figured we'd try some appetizers before Ad Hoc.

Image

After a lengthy discussion, we finally decided on four things off the menu to try.

The first is the Carnaroli Risotto, Maine Lobster, Meyer Lemon Confit, Truffle Oil.
I believe everyone enjoyed this dish the most of the four. I'd highly recommend it.
I'm not sure I could have eaten the whole thing by myself though.
It was pretty rich and heavy, but it is a risotto.
My only gripe was that the dish was pretty sour w/ the meyer lemon overpowering the taste of the lobster.

Image

We also got the Morel Tortellini, Marscarpone, Late Spring Vegetables, Parmesean.
This was also another delicious dish, highly recommended too.
No gripe about this except for that I wish I had more.

Image

I chose to order the Crisp Duck Confit, Lentils, Foie Gras Meatballs, Crispy Spaetzle.
The best thing about this dish was the foie gras meatballs.
I was tempted to make a sandwich from the bread basket and the meatballs.
They were that good. Overall the dish was whatevers.

Image

My least favorite dish of the four is the Braised Rabbit Mole, Cheddar Grits, Radish and Tortilla Salad.
The rabbit was tender, the mole was good.
It wasn't bad, just the other three were much better.

Image

For dessert we ordered three things to try.
Alex got the Dark Chocolate Pot de Creme, Beurre Noisette, Warm Beignets.
The dark chocolate creme was really good, nicely chilled.

Image

My friend ordered the Butterscotch Sundae, Vanilla Rum Ice Cream, Salted Butter Galette.
I didn't get to try it too much so I can't say how it was.
But considering it was polished off I'd say it had to be good.

Image

I myself ordered the Hazelnut Panna Cotta, Praline Cream, Cherry Tartine.
Still longing for the panna cotta that was served at the Bourdain event, I was excited to try the one at Redd.
This did not let me down. I'd highly recommend it.
This dessert was like five desserts in one w/ everything included.

Image

Overall I enjoyed all of what we ordered and I'd definitely go back to Redd to try some of their other dishes.
They also had a bar menu w/ some stuff I'd love to try but you had to sit at the bar.
That'll be saved for next time.
Redd did not disappoint. I'd recommend it.
Food is great, service was impeccable and the price wasn't bad.
