 Re: KAWS Pinocchio
it's still just putting X's on a recognizable figure. just go buy a pinnochio toy if you like it... why spend hundreds on this boring thing?
kaws stuff made a point - critique of mass media and commercialism and all that

Ok, great we get it, KAWS is overrated, its just x's over the eyes, old toys are better, etc etc.

tell me what makes this special then
and be sure to work in explanation why the crazy high price tag this will surely have is worth it

I think if you don't like it/get it(not that your incapable) his work, your never going to. Different strokes. Personally this strokes me, as does Fancy Toy. Take that how you will.

 Re: KAWS Pinocchio
Well the price tag thing is nothing more than simple supply and demand economics.
The artistic "relevance" is in the eye of the beholder. Either you like the "meaning" behind KAWS stuff or you don't. His message/medium hasn't changed (though you may call it tired etc. if you like...it's debatable, and I like KAWS). Only his popularity has.

 Re: KAWS Pinocchio
i'm not into his work in general but his earlier stuff i can appreciate for being something with meaning
this only means bucks in someone's pocket
maybe we'll get a little mermaid next
it's just a bizarre step to take from commenting on the absurdity of mass marketing to making a disney toy that now says nothing at all to anyone. it's going to be "art toy" expensive, but just ultimately be another generic disney looking piece

 Re: KAWS Pinocchio
I don't see how Kaws is really that expensive anymore when people are paying 65+ retail for a fight fiture and 40+ for minis.

Personally, I find some of his stuff is a hit, some is a big miss . . . this is a hit for me!
The Kweetie Pie not so much (although in Canary yellow it might also make the grade).

 Re: KAWS Pinocchio
The proporitions of the tweety bird just don't look right. Though I would love to see some plastic mini blister packed kurfs.

 Re: KAWS Pinocchio
This speaks to the Disney geek in me. I know there is a lot of vitriol towards Disney on this board, I don't care about that, but I loved Pinocchio as a kid and I love this set for many personal reasons. I don't need for toys to have "meaning".
As an aside, Medicom releases Disney-sanctioned toys all of the time and quite a few of them are "art toy" pricey. This isn't anything new for them. Vinylmation anyone? This avenue seems a proper direction for them to take quite honestly.

Visionary With a Sebastian omake. Now if it happes, we can claim Kaws gets all of his ideas from Skullbrain. Along the lines of Kurfs, Kimpson figures would be cool as well.

Yeah honestly, the money he gets from toys is kind of "pocket money" for him.

I don't own any kaws stuff, but seeing that Pinocchio at the show last sunday blew my mind! I hope can grab one of these when it's released.... and a dissected companion too

 Re: KAWS Pinocchio
That NIGO guy is kinda like KAWS too isn't he? Taking off on (or exploiting??) iconic designs and stamping on BAPE on wherever...then, its high end street wear that's really fuckin' expensive.
Some people respect what he does, other people thinks he suck and exploitative.
But, well, tons of money comes his way...
