Right? Eh, depends. If a girl collects monster toys, that one thing doesn't automatically make her cool. I'd say it does. at least in my book. of course Jenny is obsessive too.

While I haven't quite yet acquired the taste for all her previous works. I like this one.

If you focus on it the right way it looks like the cheek spots are eyes, and the collar is pincers. Almost looks like an insect headed girl.

And she did collect toys for a few years, mostly Takara Jennys and Madame Alexander dolls.

Re: New Amanda Visell "kaiju" Figure
hey fart buckets, I am typing with my fingers painted blue. It seems like I defend myself here the most. Honestly this feels like the most boy centric avenue I am close to. When my tic toc apocalypse mini figure set came out, on the KR boards someone made a flippant comment about me sleeping with someone in charge. I find this crap funny, but it also doesnt feel great.
I was in my teen years in Puyallup, WA, which is close to Olympia, Wa during the riot grrl movement. I can tell you Huggy Bear and Bikini Kill got me through high school. I am fortunate. To know that you can be different, expressive and a girl really meant something to me, and its something I try to hold on to in my current life, I have to work hard at it.
To me a girl is a monster, or can be, we can rule, crash, smash. Thats the point. May seem like just a girl, but what do you know. We could eat your world. Poop it out into mush. Thats the point. You dont know what a monster is. What a kaiju is.
Thats why its a monster.
As strange as it may seem to you I am a girl in a boy's world. I am proud to be, but there are differences and some people seem to hold out. Its a fight, really a fight to stay current and relevant as an artist alone. My world is totally driven by people on message boards, fans, buyers, whatever. I appreciate that and really try to involve myself. Im into the debate. I will talk about whatever you want, you know if you email me I respond to everyone.
So to address this issue specifically, I said kaiju as a joke, kaiju is funny to me. I have been working on this "girl" character for a while. Eventually you'll see the whole picture. I collect kaiju, but I do see the humor, similar to the Stay Puff Marshmellow man.
Because what could be scarier than something you thought of as innocent?

Amanda, thanks for coming and participating. It's not related directly to the toy, I'm just curious about this: thisishorrible wrote: As strange as it may seem to you I am a girl in a boy's world. Are you talking about Skullbrain, or the art world, or just the world in general?

Touché. Although I prefer to see women in a softer light, your statement rings so true. Under the soft exterior women can be pretty monstrous given the right conditions. Now, knowing the depth of thought behind this, I retract my just a girl statement.

Eh, at this point in my life I've seen men and women be equally monstrous in all the same ways. I don't think either gender is special in that regard.

And I do like the dual nature of the design: Ghost&Flower wrote: If you focus on it the right way it looks like the cheek spots are eyes, and the collar is pincers. Almost looks like an insect headed girl. It's like Man-E-Faces in that respect. ;p

eric wrote: lol this is exactly why i left this thread the f alone. why, exactly? were you worried that amanda would "eat your world [and] poop it out into mush"? thats why i've been steering clear.. also. i thought the tic toc minis were pretty sweet.. not so much into minis OR blind packaged toys, but some of these were really cool. i nabbed the bat open boxed from that other place.. i'd love the bat fighter gnome as well, but i'm not willing to shell out the $40 or $50 or whatever the hell they're going for..

I just meant that I see the point Amanda was making and appreciate that there was more thought behind it than just "a joke" , as was mentioned earlier. That being said... I still can't really see it in the same category as Goji, Gamera, etc. Or even Man E Faces.

Basically it's Amanda's version of a Pitt Seijin.
Works for me.

Amanda is putting on a great exhibition in Taipei. Really nice mix of resin, vinyl, and prints. Here's my write up of the opening: http://kaijukorner.blogspot.com/2010/07 ... se-in.html
