Post Hey Sf area boardies..need some help.
I have been pushing my soon to be wife for us to move across country and it seems like she is finally down for the cause. I am thinking the San Fran area as it just seems like a good area. Having lived near and gone to school in NYC for so long we would def need a place to match the options given there and it looks like SF would be right up our alley. Plus Ive been a Niner fan since the third grade so that adds alot of points for me. So just looking for any info like avg apartment cost or what the different neighborhoods are like. We don't necessarily need to live in SF but within 20-30 minutes would be great too. As a couple we make pretty decent money, I would say high average. Thanks for any help.

Craigslist is a good start.

Neighborhoods:

Mission: Very cool, lots of great resturants. Really hipster tho :)

Lower haight: Probly my favorite, its very central. Lots of cool folks, less hipster, more punk and hip hop :D

Outersunset: If you like living in a house not a apartment this is were you will want to live. Close to ocean (doesnt matter tho you wont want to get in) :)

Potrero Hill: Pretty sweet spot. Good food and a great view. Folks are older but not ancient :D

Tenderloin: Great place to live if your a crack addict :(

Marina and Pacific Heights: Lots of white people and you better have some dough (serious dough) :(

Richmond: Dont know much about the richmond :?:

Western Addition: Its a cool spot. but its a gamble tho. One block will be nice and the next will be projects :?

Noe Valley: Great place to have a kid. It seems like everyone in this neighborhood has a new baby.

Bernal Heights: This neighborhood is carzy. It looks like you in a small town not attached to SF. 8)

North Beach: Great food, NO PARKING!!!!! :(

Hunters Point: Great place to join a gang :D :(

I lived all over the city and now I live in Daly City and I love it. I got a 4 bedroom for the price of a 2 in SF. I live 15min to the lower haight. I think when you first move here you should live in the city, to get the experience.
I have lived here for 10 years now and I cant think of a place I would rather live. ( maybe hawaii)

Hope this helps.

Here's another link to get to know your target SF hood: http://sf.everyblock.com/

I've never lived in the city itself, the closest I ever came was Daly City too. Not too bad indeed, but still not it.
For me, living close to work, which is in Redwood City for now, is paramount. I hate communiting.
As it is, although I live about 25mi down the Penninsula, I hardly ever get to go to SF itself.

Yeah its a strange phonon ma. People dont travel that much. If you live in the east bay, you pretty much stay in the east bay, same with north and south bay. I think the toll has alot to do with it. Oh and also our train system closes at midnight (lame) so drinking and driving is pretty much your only choice if you go out and you live outside of the city.
