Krudler wrote: It looks like KR product to me, but so does a lot of stuff nowadays. It has the KR slickness, looks niche marketed as well. Who produced the ScaryGirl toys? Don't all toys end up in some kind of niche market? You can argue that the Japanese one's don't because for the most part, they were made because the person just wanted to make the toys for themselves. But in the end, there are people that will collect toys from only 1 company, toys with a certain style or look, toys with a specific color. Some Japanese companies make toys because they want to, not to fill a gap in a market. It just so happens that the toy they make falls into the niches that we make. Maybe this one can fall into the market of yokai toys. As for the slickness, I think that can be attributed to the sculptor. If you look at the drawing, it is a bit more crude. Which brings up Scary Girls. Scary Girl, which are Nathan Jurevicius' characters, were made by KR. It seems to fit in with KR because of how clean his illustrations, that were done on the computer, look (very different from when he doesn't use the computer). Also, if you want to go into niches, it also falls into the style that the KR kids like. Very different style from Takekuma Kentaro...which probably won't work with KR's style. Kevlo9 wrote: Looks like a Kozik KR figure...do not like. It's not even in the same style as Kozik. If anything, it's closer to Mizuki Shigeru ( who?).

 Re: New BLObPUS Toy..!!!
I don't normally call shit out here but "stop crying" doesn't fly. Taste is taste and there's plenty of room for a diversity of tastes here. Mild criticism isn't crying or whining. Diversity of views helps keep Skullbrain interesting. Members insulting one another does not. The excess of bad interpersonal vibes has really been dragging this place down lately.
I love the early family of Blob sculpts and always will. For me things started going awry when Mr. Blob incorporated western devil/evil elements in his toys, but that's just one man's opinion and I'm well aware that others like the more recent sculpts.
IMHO nothing could be more cliched at this hour than slapping bunny ears on a contemporary toy or for that matter including them in a post-"lowbrow" painting. At least there's no spray can or boom box.
If you like this thing, more power to you. It's got some cool elements and being Blobpus, it'll probably enjoy some stunning paint jobs. I definitely dig the weird x-mouth with fangs. Sometimes things you don't like at first grow on you. Collect and enjoy.

Ah...but how do you know if the Deffy is not a comment on everyone's favorite KR toy? Is it better knowing that it might be, and maybe is, based on the KR toy. Hard to say since we can't ask the creator. Or...it really is a zombie bunny and not based on the KR toy.

 Re: New BLObPUS Toy..!!!
I don't know what manga this Deffy come from. The drawing looks cool. Not toy, no so for me. Maybe if I'd I know it's personality/story - I'd be a bit interested. I don't see why I'd get a toy character from a book I know nothing about.
If you happen to stumble upon Kentaro Takekuma's Even a Monkey Can Draw Manga, do yourself a favor and buy it. Funny funny wild stuff !

If it is a comment on a certain overexposed platform toy, that's definitely funny, but for how long? To Deffy's credit, I think it's got a lot more going on than mere hipster irony. I dunno. Just tired of bunny ears. However... I like my Usagi-gon. I have Azteca dummies on my bathroom window sill. My street cred here just died, I know. I'm just a little disappointed in Blobpus, that's all. There have been some spectacular paints in recent times ... I loved the "animal" series. I just wish there was a new sculpt that lived up to the mysterious monstrous connotations of classics like Blobpus, Blopbi, Last Kaiju and Dokugon. Remember when people used to speculate about the story of the Blobpus? Why the eyes were sutured, what the other eyes meant, how he fit into the fight figure pantheon. Maybe a little Deffy back-story would dry my tears.

It looks neat for what it is, I think, it just doesn't exactly 'fit' with any of their other toys. To each their own.

Nothing wrong with it, really, if it does look like/remind you of a KR toy...what's wrong with that?
The Bemon reminds some people of a pile of shit. The Zollmen Fancy Toy Robin character reminds some of a dick. And so on.
Toys being put out---wether its Western or Eastern designed---are bound to be critiqued here, well, in so many levels. Deep or shallow. Diversity rules.

The guy shows at the Whitney Biennial in 2004 (NY), that very same year KR got rolling with the Dummy. Its a fairly well trodden idea though.

seems like some think this illustration and toy was influenced by western design. I don't think that's the case here. More like it's come full circle.

 Re: New BLObPUS Toy..!!!
Did everyone miss the part about it being based on a manga character?
Maybe this Takekuma dude wanted a toy based on one of his characters. Or BLObPUS wanted to make a toy of a character that he liked.
We shouldnt all like the same thing and there is nothing wrong with having an actual conversation about toys and the things one is passionate about.
But, sometimes a toy is just a toy.

 Re: New BLObPUS Toy..!!!
For those that are curious I found the back story on Deffy. First off, those are not bunny ears, they are razor sharp spoons that she (all Deffy's are female) uses to scoop out the brains of her enemies (males who are anti-cute and who see cuteness as feminine and weak.) The brains are ingested through her X-shaped mouth that folds back like the petals on a flower to reveal a long lizard-like tongue that she uses to flick the brains into her waiting maw. Her second favorite thing to eat next to human male brains are flaccid penises which she gorges herself on through her protruding bellybutton mouth which is filled with hundreds of microscopic buzz-saw blades. She loves eating her little flaccid meat treats with the universes hottest chile peppers which are ritualistically worn as a garland across her forehead (see below.) She has developed one droopy eyelid in order to give the impression that she is slow and not very dangerous at all. It is her other eye that is truly diabolical though. Through an evolutionary process that has taken many centuries, the Deffy has trained that eye to give off the heavy odor, and shape, of a freshly baked cinnamon bun which she can pop out of her eye socket at an amazing rate. The odor is so highly intoxicating to males that they can't resist shoving as many as they can possibly consume down their greedy throats. What the unsuspecting human male is unaware of is that this is the breeding process for the Deffy and within a matter of just a few short minutes the hundreds of newborn Deffy will be clawing and gnawing their way out of the male host to start the process all over again. So there's the back story. Don't blame me. Someone else translated and just passed it along to me. I'n not sure the cute little thing is capable of all that horror. I must admit though that cinnamon bun snack I had a few minutes ago is making me feel kind of weird.
