Did lunch at Spruce when a friend was visiting in town.

http://www.yelp.com/biz/spruce-san-francisco

Check out the ridiculousness on the bottom of this menu.

Image

Here's the Charcuterie Selection, I added the pastrami.
Nothing that great compared to others I've had.

Image

I convinced my friend to order the Saffron Fazzoletti Braised Spring Lamb so I can try some.
The lamb was nicely done and very tender.
Portion was very generous. It was a very hearty meal especially for lunch.

Image

Other friend ordered the Grilled Local Albacore Nicoise.
Compare the size of that fish to the egg.
It was another generous portion.
The fish was very fresh and tasty, just wasn't a big fan of the seasoning they used.

Image

Here's what I ordered, Golden Potato Gnocchi.
Simple and delicious, I'd recommend it.

Image

Other friend ordered the Crispy Duck Confit over the burger.
It was nicely done but nothing to rave about.
Probably should have tried the burger.

Image

Beignets @ Spruce. Order them. That's all.

Image

We also got the Dark Chocolate Bread Pudding.
The best thing about this was the basil and olive oil ice cream it was paired with.

Image

So, Spruce. Had a wonderful lunch.
Food was great and the portions were more than enough for lunch.
One day I'd like to go back for dinner.
I need to go back for lunch and try the burger.

What is "preserved" foie gras? Is that what they call pate?

Red O = sooooo good
http://www.redorestaurant.com/#/home
Yellow Fin Tuna ceviche - great flavor with a hint of citrus to balance out the dish
Quesos Fundidos (chorizo with roasted poblano chiles) - can't go wrong with cheese, chorizo and chiles
Sonoma Duck taquitos - was just awesome. no words can describe the goodness of this dish. It was the favorite of the table
Pollo en Mole Poblano - chicken was cooked to perfection...but the dish could have used more mole
Tres Leches - do not order. This was the big disappointment for the evening
Soft Serve - Cajeta - but thank god we got this one. Ice cream and some hints of bacon. I'll get this every time.

Ate at the Foundry on Melrose, Eric Greenspan's place. We had 12 courses..I think it was 12. Some dishes could have used a little salt but overall it was excellent.
http://www.thefoundryonmelrose.com/
Here is the list of what we ordered:
Shrimp Toast - mango was a great combination with the shrimp
Rum Glazed Pork Belly - I was wondering where the plantains were. As it turns out, it was mashed plantains with some bits of chorizo. Everything went well together with a little bit of sweet from the plantains and a bit of sour from the salad
Open Faced Cuban Ruben - this might be the winner at the table. It was really simple but everything was prepared well
Crab and Spinach Dip - needed a bit of salt. My friend couldn't taste the crab and neither could I
Beer Steamed Mussels - I didn't get to try this. My friends ate it all up before I could grab anything
Chicken Confit - Chicken was a bit dry but when you ate it with the veggies, it was much better
Monk Fish (similar to the John Dory on the menu) - fish was slightly over cooked but was still good. gnocchi was excellent
Stuffed Hash Browns - hash browns stuffed with a little bit of cheese and some beef...you can't go wrong
Brioche French Toast - the sourness of the buttermilk ice cream contrasted well with the sweetness of the toast.

From the Chef:
Yellow Tomato Gazpacho - the vanilla cured snapper was very light and there were just hints of everything else in this dish
Potato Soup - potato soup with bacon bread pudding was really good. The soup was a bit gummy but that didn't matter because the taste was great
Duck Confit (not on the menu) - cooked well but had a very meaty flavor to it. Might have been from the chorizo that was in the dish.

Sixer for the kitchen

You gastro-snob, you

That bread pudding looks divine! How was the flavor of the ice cream, was it subtle? Did the olive oil balance out the basil? I've had the basil and goat cheese at Scoops here in LA and found it to be fantastic. Just wundrin'

have gone two more times after my first visit.
each visit has been spectacular.
service is amazing! everything gets cleaned out fast, and food comes quick!
the food is just outstanding. every single dish i've had there has been some of the best food i have ever tasted.
the price!!! it is a straight out steal for what you get and how you get treated!

the second time we went we were seated right in front of the pizza oven (which was shipped from italy!) and the to right of the main kitchen! it was an experience!

bert- looks delicious.

went to the new pizza place in s.f., ragazza, as per alex's command.
it was delicious!
we had the margharita. awesome sauce, the bread is nice and crunchy.
and the potato/ bacon pizza. the potatos were thinly sliced and gave it a great starchy thing going. the bacon gave it some saltiness, and the cheese went good with everything.

(alex- you MUST come to oenotri!)

I have a lot of things to talk about, but for now let me say:

-Ragazza fucking rules.
-Gracias Madre fucking rules too.

-The Marlowe burgie is eh. I'll still take the nopa burger over it. joe and I went recently and it was ehh

-Michael Mina is getting slammed by the press around here. They seem to really have it out for him.

-Commonwealth and Prospect. I say go for it.

-The best croissant is at Sandbox in bernal heights. If you haven't been to Europe, this is the place to go. I wish Tartine didn't burn everyone of their fucking croissants because I'm sure they would top this. Patisserie Philippe comes in a close second. Tartine still does the best pastries in the city over all. If you have never been then you probably should turn in your "food snob" card. (this means you-know-who on here)

That's it for now.
