I agree with what Dustin said, but would like to add that maybe an assortment of colored capsules to match some of the limb colors along with the blue ones could have brought the piece together more.

I'm going to have to agree with Dustin. The clarity is good... I think that's about the most clear you're going to get with the Eyezon vinyl. I like the idea of filling the figure, but I'm not sold on the idea of filling it so much, or with just one thing. The guts it came with are pretty rad, and I see the one part on top, but some more variety would have helped break up the inside in the absence of any real paint on the body. I like the ideas, I just don't think it quite came together as the sum of its parts. Like you said, though, you've learned for next time.

This looks great. The fades on the arms and legs look amazing. I'd like to see some new metamorphin capsules cast in pink, orange, and yellow to fill this guy with, just so the overall color flows throughout. Glad you shared the entire process.

Re: Custom Clear Eyezon - finished! 10.11.2010
Thank you Ghost&Flower, Prometheum5 and animator. I think a color fade at the sides of the main body might have helped to give the sculpt some dimension. As for the color on the inside some of it is lost due to the gelatine of the capsules. The colored sugar does have a very vivid transparency but adding clear vinyl and the capsules does make it a bit foggy. I could have kept more of the original guts but then again, I wanted to see a whole eyezon filled with capsules. Almost like a gashapon or gum ball machine. An assortment of different colors might have helped but could just as well backfire making it visually too noisy. That being said, I disagree with making the capsules in the same color as the dyed vinyl. Using a complementary color was the right choice but it is lacking some saturation... Thanks again, everybody for the great comments.

That said, I'm not really feeling the way you treated the eyes on this guy. I don't think the triangle-shaped decals are enough to make them stand out from the rest of the sculpt. Even in the close-ups it takes a moment for me to realize that the triangles are placed where the eyes are sculpted. Maybe if you'd backed them up with some transparent color before placing the decals they'd be more prominent and recognizable as eyes. I think I'd also like to see more of the great colors you've got going on on his limbs happening on his body. The capsules inside are kinda cool, but not nearly as vibrant as the arms and legs. I think the clear vinyl and the glitter obscures them a little too much for their color to "pop." Relative to the limbs, the torso falls kinda flat. Still, your custom is definitely well-executed and creative. Thanks for posting the WIP pics and keeping us updated. It's been fun watching this one come together. Thank you very much, Dustin for taking the time to write this very constructive and honest criticism. Indeed, you are not the first to mention the eyes or rather their lacking visualization. I see that a bit of color on the eyes would also probably have helped adding some interest to the otherwise flat color of the body. I added a little dyed fade to the main body but unfortunately that was lost as well with the capsules inside. So yeah, you're definitely right about the issues you pointed out and it is good to have learned a lot (including the above mentioned) while making this and still having a good result overall. Yeah, man. Overall, the result is definitely a fun and unique custom. Thinking about it some more, I think one solution to the foggy/flat coloration of the torso might be to go with opaque capsules...if you can find 'em. Especially if you could track down some Dr. Mario-style two-tone ones. Just an idea...

Just an idea... Opaque capsules are readily available in a few different colors (two-tone included). Using these might have helped but then again you wouldn't be able to see the tiny sugar cast characters inside the capsules... But hey, you may just have kicked off another idea in my silly brain. Thanks.

Greasebat wrote: how did you make the eye decals? Are they actual water slide decals or stickers? thx These are actual water slide decals, however, they are self made. You can print on the decal paper your choice of design. Afterwards you coat it with a gloss coat to seal the decal and protect it from moisture and when the coat is dry you can apply it to your desired object just like any other water slide decal. I think rotobox uses selfmade water slide decals on their toys. If you look closely at the arm you'll see the edges of the decal paper. ROTOBOX-CRAP-18 by toysrevil2, on Flickr Any decent model kit store should carry this. According to some forums on the net a good brand is this one: http://www.bare-metal.com/Experts-Choic ... -Film.htmlHope this helps.
