 Moving to Chicago
I am making the leap, moving from Arizona to Chicago.
My wife and I and our 2 dogs are hopping in the GTI and heading east this Weds.
Please feel free to give me suggestions on places to eat, drink and shop.

 Re: Moving to Chicago
Check out the forums, we just talked about awesome places to eat. Make sure to stop by Roto and say hello to Kirby and the gang. Are you moving into the city or the burbs?

In the city, about a mile away from Roto.

Awesome, that's a really cool area, lots of restaurants and easy peezy access to the red line. Welcome to Chicago!

OH Minh, your such a hoot with the meet ups and what have you Seriously though there is tons of highjinx and Minh knows this city like the back of his hand. We can go to Diversy bowl and sit around and drink and talk about books and not bowl again!

 Re: Moving to Chicago
welcome to chicago! it's great to have an awesome artist move into our neck of the woods. come out to rotofugi on friday night for the gallery opening. maybe the rest of the skullbrain crew will come out to play and welcome you in person. for info on where to eat & drink, check out chicago's Best Restaurants List in this very forum. come down to the south loop for cheap & tasty eats in chinatown, too. as for shopping, what kind of consumerism are you looking to partake in?

 Re: Moving to Chicago
Hey we just moved into our apartment yesterday and the movers delivered our stuff yesterday morning. Trying to unpack and actually work for 8 hours which is a difficult balancing act so far.
We'll definitely be at Rotofugi this friday, look forward to meeting everyone

 Re: Moving to Chicago
The new location is amazing, me and my crew will not be there tomorrow, as we will be in Florida. Maybe we'll schedule a get together in Nov. This month has just been crazy, as I'm sure it's been crazy for everyone else too. Also if anyone wants to go out for halloween I think we're going to Mac's on Diversey to win a costume contest!

 Re: Moving to Chicago
Yeah a meet up is due, hopefully I can make it. With my weird available hours I just don't get out much. I took the day off for the Gargamel show though, so I'll for sure be there.
I'd make it to more gallery openings if they were more toy related. Not that I'm not into other stuff but not enough to get out and go to openings and all. We need a Lamour Supreme, PK or LASH show in the cold midwest FOR REALZ!

 Re: Moving to Chicago
Lamour would be awesome, I love everything he's done with Mishka and the Nx3 headers. A Lamour Supreme Coop show would make my head explode. I've liked Coop since I was in like the 9th grade.

 Re: Moving to Chicago
so who showed up last night? i arrived with my wife a little before 9:00 and met up with etr_wolf (virginia) and a couple of other non-skullbrainers. it looked like a great turnout even after the crowd thinned a bit. both artists and steeve seeley were there mingling and chatting with everyone, but i didn't recognize any other 'brainers.
magillagorilla, did you make it out? enjoying chicago yet? there's a fantastic mexican joint about 1/2 block away from the new roto location, and it's open until 5am, so it's perfect for grabbing a bite after a late gallery opening.
anyway, it was a great show, and i hope we can get us all together soon!

 Re: Moving to Chicago
We didn't get there until 9:45. Great work on the walls. This was the second time I've been to the new location (i was there once before while apartment hunting). We stopped across the street at Delilahs for some beer afterward.
Chicago has been great. Stopped at the empty bottle last night for the Baseball Furies show. Lots to do out here

 Re: Moving to Chicago
what is the strange psychic connection between arizona and chicago? i made the jump nearly 7 years ago... used to live in phoenix, just off camelback and central, and i knew so many folks that had moved from chicago. must have something to do with extremes in temperature... or sumthin. (and a fine hello to all my fellow chi-towners. it's my first post, so take it easy on me... i don't know what i can get away with yet.) =p shame to go to delilah's just for beer... gotta go for the bourbon!

 Re: Moving to Chicago
There's a weird Atlanta-Chicago connection I learned as well after I mvoed down there for a few years. I met a HUGE amount of people from the Chicago area down there and before I moved I happened to run into a large amount of Atlanta natives in Chicago. I think Ludacris was from a Chicago suburb before he moved to ATL as a kid, there's a few rappers/musicians who did that or something similar. I also think Buckingham Fountain iused to be controled from ATL.
