this is my new sculpt inspired by a poisonous mushroom called in Latin "Phallus impudicus" (shameless penis)
Now I have to decide about the body ...do you like it?

So it looks like the mushroom. It does nothing as a character or creative design.

Oh please. Dedo has cranked out some pretty great sculpts. This one just doesn't have the same charm so far. He posted it looking for feedback, so now he's got it. if you've got something constructive to say, spit it out.

I think we've seen other mushroom inspired toys, most of them are really great. I think it's best to wait and see the final product and then may be judge.

as far as my feedback on the head.... it's just a head, so far. i agree with axolotl & will make my judgment once the whole thing is done. beyond that, keep it up dedo!! i'm enjoying watching your development as a sculptor.

when you sign up for this board, you're told to havea thick skin.

if you're an artist, you should be able to handle a comment from someone about your work. if you can't it might be time to find a new avenue to pursue.

if people liked/loved everything, this would be a boring message board. oh wait....

when it comes to artistic feedback, a good critique is almost always less informative than a negative one.
ask anyone who went to art school and was forced to have weekly critiques.

shiny happy opinions make for better networking though.

thanks uberboy. i was working the art school angle, i had to bear witness to many friends' critiques.

it does make for nice networking, but it creates vomit inducing reading for the rest of us.

Saying something looks like "nothing" and saying that construes "constructive criticism" is anything but. Chiding someone for not accepting this as valid commentary because that's what artists are supposed to do really doesn't add anything to the discussion.

I saw the face, just barely, but I didn't think it had the quality of dedo's other sculpts. I probably could have explained that more fully the first time. I clarified, and was vilified rather than responded to.

maybe if the eyes were a bit more pronounced, the face would stand out better

but not sure how people can miss a face in there

I like the face. Work out the mouth a little more though. I'm curious to see the body.

The texture is really great. I too would like to see the face a bit more pronounced though..but not too much.

will he himself have a shameless penis sculpted onto his body? i love the my-brain-freeze-hurts expression, although the odd orange paint + flash is making the details hard to see.

I like this guy, the facial features, though subtle, still delivers a strong expression,I can't put my finger on it- shock, constipation, scary face- but trying to nail it down is drawing me in. But I wish you didn't make the mushroom comparrison. I actually see it as a cone headed lava man. The texture doesn't seem like the shroom you posted. I think it would have been better to remove the inspiration and let people make their own conclusions on his inspiration.
Anyway, I too look forward to seeing the body you develop.

I dunno....saying "It looks like...nothing" doesn't equate to "you're a fucking cunt" to me.

It wouldn't really occur to me even to try to read into what Ben's emotional state may be just from that statement. I don't know if Ben knows dedoperucelli offline or what their relationship is, but if they're simply "peers" (as in, both are resin sculptors, but beyond that, don't really know each other), I don't see much of a problem with the comment. Instead of people getting all feelings-hurt and shit, why not just ask? Not everything has to be a drama-fest.

I don't know dedoperucelli from a hole in the wall, but I saw the face almost immediately. The fuck does that say about my psychology??? Anyway, I think the sculpt is nice enough, but I really think the WHOLE figure should have been debuted...not just the head. I mean, the body could be dope...or it could suck. Kinda hard to say anything concrete about just a head...other than, yes, it's kinda non-descript. Let's face it, it IS just a bunch of organic detail with just a subtle hint of a face. Again, it could make for a dope figure, depending on the body, but for now, there's not a ton to comment on.

I assure you that the face is clearly visible ... I am not able to photograph it .
however, I accept the negative criticism ... I'm often critical of the work of others.
the fungus in the photo was just of remotely inspiration.
now I want to make the body ...nice but possibly easier to print.
