I say we all chip in and buy an island and start our own Skullbrain Nation. Things will be fine unless the NNN riff starts a civil war.

It was in regards to colonizing space, as Earth will be standing room only based on Malthus predictions. <-- Harvard GLOBALISTS aka Tim Leary. It is cool we will live in little spheres tethered to the Earth where the Taliban or Sarah Palin can't get you!!

If only we could some how actually start a viable 3rd party that wasn't on the fringes of everything.

Besides being a 44 year old Environmental Science major, I want to have a shot at an environmental job after graduation.

Re: 44th American President discussion thread.
I'm glad Obama won. Hopefully the republicans will not experience sour grape syndrome and actually work with him this time around.
That said, why am I not surprised no one posted here as opposed to 2008? Guess the kids lurking on the board today are too busy trying to get their nags/ gorilla ju's to bother giving a shit.

Does it annoy anyone else how many billions of dollars were wasted on an un-electable presidential candidate. Wouldn't want that money to go towards storm relief or anything positive

I am not affiliated with any party and Obama is actually a bit too right wing for me, but this election just proves how far out of touch the republican party is with the actual citizens of this country. Unfortunately, for them this country is not made up of 45-75 year old white men. Just bummed how much of a mess the world is in and how much money gets wasted on an election that we are all tired of.

Re: 44th American President discussion thread.
I am happy and relieved that Obama won the election. He is definitely the lesser of the two "evils." Don't get me wrong, I do like a lot of what he has done and wants to do, but the government is still very crooked either way.. And yes, I agree... All of this money that they are spending on elections and other things could be put to much better use. Also, all of this crap that people are fighting over and bitching about ultimately will not matter if people on this entire planet won't change their unsustainable ways of living.. Right now, the way people are using the natural resources on this planet are about 2 1/2 Earths. If things don't change, wars are going to be fought over fresh water instead, plus a whole load of other crap will go down. Yes, some people are trying to make a difference, but this is not enough. More people and countries need to get on board. Even other developing countries such as China and India, for example, they are becoming very industrialized and are burning up a ton of fossil fuels and coal in the process. Instead of going that rout, they should go the "green" and more sustainable rout since that would be so much easier to do when the country is still developing as opposed to later on trying to switch out everything. Old growth forests and jungles are still being cut down and depleting, fresh water is depleting and/or being polluted to a point where it will be unusable, natural resources are depleting, animals and creatures are becoming extinct in an alarming rate, many beneficial plants and fungi (etc.) are becoming extinct, bees are disappearing (can't live without them), pollution is rising, and a lot of people (especially highly influential people) either don't care or don't know what is going on. A lot of people that do know also don't care because they won't be alive when shit goes down. Why should they worry, they won't live that long to see all of the negative effects?? A lot of people, companies, and countries are greedy with their "gimmie, gimmie, gimmie, now" mentality, and want to be immediately satisfied and just don't give a shit that doing the better and more sustainable thing, they will actually get a better pay-off in the end, but that end is much further away for them to care. Things need to change now to a more sustainable way of living if we don't want to destroy ourselves and everything with us.. Instead of having a parasitic relationship with our planet, we need to develop and live in a symbiotic relationship with our planet. Anyways.... Sorry to go off on a tangent like this.. I'm taking an Ecology class and am learning a lot more about what is really going on. This is just frustrating to see people fight over small things (obviously not everything) when they leave the really important stuff on the backburner because it won't be their problem to deal with. We need to educate the masses because people who need to be bringing on "the change", aren't... At least not as much as they should be..

psilo110 wrote: un-electable ? I am not affiliated with any party, but it was dead even until election day. Or so the media would like you to believe. If you listen to stasticians like Nate Silver ( http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/) who actually analyze the polls, it wasn't even close: he was giving Obama a 90% chance of winning, and as far as I can see, he got every single result right (even Florida, which he couldn't call!). But the networks would get a lot less people watching, the newspapers less people reading, and less people would bother going out to vote if that was "believed". So... And yes, even my conservative friends here would have voted Obama. You guys have to choose between hard right and centre-right. I don't envy you. (And Virginia, I agree with you! I always vote green since it's the one issue that trumps all others...)

LOL, politics on a toy board being discussed among a group of adults who get into emotional arguments about how a plastic doll is sold. Awesome. Sounds like the best idea on Earth. No purple needed for that sarcasim.
