BxH have never done fight size and are just using the platform as a marketing tool to promote the brand (and easy $$$ to boot).

I think what Hiddy's doing these days is classed as difussion in the Western world . . . unfortunately it's at the expense of the fighters.

I'm not even sure how this fits into the discussion.
The secret base be@rbricks worked really well and joined a rank of quite a few great designs on them at the time (pushead, kaws, etc, etc, etc)
I love toy story aliens but, ugh these are horrible.

Gross. Saw these in person at SDCC.

Gross as a toy that is. If I envisage them as a novelty items, say a keychain free in a Gachapon with a BxH or SB logo, then I am fine with them and wouldnt mind having some laying around the place or hanging from my mirror fading and carcking in the sun. But as a toy, in the same space as say an SB fight figure? No.

Why do they have Stitch ears?

I wonder if they came with a phone number on the box so the designs could be phoned in?

beat that dead horse Fellas!

why even talk about this here? because Hiddy did one?

we get it, we get it, you all get to keep your cred by crapping on this toy...

I'm going to start a Polly Pocket thread and take swipes at the paint application.

these ain't aimed at us, they're aimed at the millions (not hundreds) of people who buy Disney shit. I think the Vinylmation Mickey form is an abomination, one of the worst I've EVER seen, and yet it sells like fucking hotcakes!

just to shore up my cred a bit, I REALLY don't like...um, let's see...Avatar action figures!

i don't really think that's the point, lorne.. truthfully, i like plenty of stuff that would get crapped on by most members here. that being said, this product is affiliated with SB and i'm sure many members who are die hard fans feel like he is catering to the lowest common denominator with these guys.. frankly, the fans who do have extensive SB collections have every right to be upset by this horrendous excuse for a toy, considering the quality that we all know hiddy can produce..

Post Re: Secret Base Toy Aliens?
I'm curious, really not dumping on anything here, but did Hiddy "design" that? Or is it a Ron English design done for Secret Base?

It's an argument about semantics I know.

Either way, Lorne is right. Disney is really popular with the vinyl crowd. Does this make the Hello Kitty collab they just did, or the Convex collabs, detrimental to "true" Secret Base fans as well?

It's a good business plan to broaden the market to include a lot of different audiences. Look around this place, it's happening a lot more than most people realize.

These brands that have been around for a long time also factor in who their original audience was, and a lot of those people are now parents with little kids. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that marketing to those parents with Disney toys and Hello Kitty clothes and figures is a good idea.

At the end of the day, as much as "cred" is thrown around here, the point of ALL of these companies is to make some money, otherwise they wouldn't be churning stuff out. I think people forget this a lot of the time.
