Post Questions for the space challenged-Small bedrooms edition!
Hi,

Skylar and I are working on some configurations to add some additional billy bookcases to our bedroom. (THE TOYS ARE TAKING OVER THE HOUSE!) Has anyone done any creative bedroom arrangements to allow for additional shelving? We obviously need the basics in there too like a Bed, and 2 dressers.

Show me your setups! (I'm not interested in making a loft-I'm in my 30s!)

I'm about to totally redo my bedroom; repaint, new bed frame, new bedside tables and dresser.
Thank god Ikea is five blocks away.

Hopefully someone with a better design sense than me will post pics so we can all get some ideas. Thanksgiving break is the targeted repaint/bed change.

I wish these toys didn't take up so much space.

I bought an Expedit bookshelf from Ikea last week for my room. With just 12 standard size toys on top its almost full.

Not sure where I'm gonna put the 100 or so toys on my wish list.

Expedits are the worst for toys. The cubes are too deep to see the stuff in the back, and the lack of movable shelves mean many taller figures don't fit! Records, however, its great for.

Bunk beds . . . instantly increase your bedroom real estate! :D

Just get dibs on the bottom bunk and make Skylar haul ass up the ladder!

HA!

Well, we did manage to agree that we can share my large dresser when I went through and decided that band shirts from 1992 can actually go into storage.

Maybe a shelving boarder around the top of the room? Just low enough for larger figures to stand with a little head room. Put all that unused space up high to good use. Of course you'll have to choose toys that are tall enough to be seen up there. And toys that look good when you are looking up at them. Like pirates and captains. (Which would have to go by the edge so you could see them, risking a LOOONG shelf dive. But they'd look good staring down at you.)

I love my Expedits for toys. I just put the bigguns in the back and the ones that don't fit on the very top. If you're really nuts you can get risers, but I just cram them in size order so they work out for me. 12" is pretty good for most stuff I collect and, again, bigger stuff goes on the very top.
