Zackariah wrote: How is First Blood? I havent got to check it out yet. It's super catchy, very different and way too short. PERFECT! I love Gone for Good and Live It Up. Those songs are great, but just too short. They end and I hit rewind, again and again and again. I can't get into the final song on the record, though. You hear some power pop and glam, a little VU and a little T. Rex to go with the super clever Nobunny lyrics. Be sure to check it out. dxxe wrote: Been listening to a mix of Jay Reatard, Wavves and Jandek non-stop all weekend. Nice mix. Jay is always good. I had fun a few weeks ago seeing Wavves with Jay's ex-band and I'll be seeing Jandek play here in Davis in few weeks. He is actually going to be playing a radio session for KDVS, apparently only the second time he's done one, and if everything works out I'll be videotaping the performance for Corwood Industries!

Re: What do you listen to????????
OK, so I'm likely a bit behind on this one. Has anyone else been listening to Skweee Tooth (the genre of lo-fi Scandinavian electro)? At first I dismissed it probably because of how silly the name is... but.. it's fun! Sort of a less gimmicky slowed down chip tune type of thing. Anyway... probably a lot of people will have the same knee jerk reaction of "to many microgenres", but if not: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ddl8Plh0fn4http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2Sf56wJ ... re=relatedhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XIV5-ax ... re=relatedAnyway... other than that. This is the absolute worst way to find music, but I had to go research and check out the Noisettes after hearing a bit of one of their songs in a shoe commercial Trying them out now.

Re: What do you listen to????????
i like a handful of anime theme songs by different bands, which usually leads me to another song or two i like by japanese musicians. a lot of the naruto theme songs over the years are especially guilty pleasures.
i love the Pillows, but again was only exposed to them through Fooly Cooly.
My latest obsessions are:
Broken Bells Vic Mizzy Dr. John Lord Buckley Girl Talk- another guilty pleasure, so much pop trash meshed so smoothly.
Live music: We saw Ray Manzarek perform with blues guitarist Roy Rogers at Yoshi's in SF last weekend. Ray is the keyboardist from the Doors. Jim gets all the attention. But if it weren't for Ray's carnival-swank church organ swing, Morrison's persona as street-preaching, midway-barking, young-crooner-from-the-wrong-side-of-the-tracks may never have evolved. I've seen Ray once before with Buddy Guy and a full band; this show was spare with just the electric slide guitar bluesman and the former Doors keyboardist. They did some Miles Davis from Sketches of Spain, some Doors covers, and a few more jazz-like numbers. I have a couple of Ray's old solo albums after Jim's death. I recommend The Golden Scarab, which is so 60's psychedelic cheesy, but with some good pacing. His next couple albums after that were less hokey, but hokey works for me.

Re: What do you listen to????????
Among many other things, spent most of the last ten or more years listening to Japanese music: Corrupted, Incapacitants, Masonna, Ground Zero, Violent Onsen Geisha, Hair Stylistics, Kazuki Tomokawa, High Rise, Nagisa Ni Te, Maher Shalal Hash Baz, Tenniscoats, Ruins, Ai Aso just to mention some of the first that come to mind. Best live shows: certainly Lightning Bolt, Masayoshi Urabe solo, Jandek and Mazzacane Conners improv, Corrupted... Some links: Kazuki Tomokawa http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBq_mZQJ9pI(from Miike's 'Izo', contains violent images and scenes) Ai Aso http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vpCtq66HZ1c(incomplete song but GREAT Wata solo) Incapacitants http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdiWGq8955M
