I think what's even more twisted then the crime was not telling that girl until AFTER they made the video, easily the most disturbing and cruel part.

I saw a show about him about a year ago wherein he had a gallery show for his artwork. It was quite odd to see young, beautiful women talking with him about his sexual-cannibalistic artwork.
He's certainly a very intelligent man, and has more self-awareness than most people.

Pretty off topic but i remember reading about the Japanese in ww2 resulting to cannibalism during the ending years of the pacific as the ration supply's were cut. The stuff that i seen was pretty graphic and they seemed to have the same cannibalistic urge of cutting off the thighs and ass, then dumping the bodies. I think the difference was that they had to eat bodies to survive where as serial killers do it for there own pleasure but im sure soldiers got hooked to it the same with killing at war.

Ugh, I can appreciate the dark side curiosity a person like this brings out. But people going to one of his art shows should be punched in the face. It's no different than supporting that "artist" who did the whole starving dog thing a year or so ago.

I don't know, I spend a lot of time working with victims of horrible crimes... maybe I'm over sensitive. His art is pretty good though.

I gotta disagree - I don't see any similarity between the two, other than uncomfortable subject matter. Starving a dog is cruel and inhumane and really didn't add anything to the dialog of starving animals, like the artist suggested was the intent (which, IMO, was BS). Issei's drawings/paintings aren't harming anyone. Sure, he harmed someone and is making art based on his urges that lead to a woman's murder. But the art itself isn't cruel. Also, Issei freely admits that what he did, and what he continues to want to do, is wrong. He knows that his urges are criminal and not socially acceptable but is exploring those urges through a less harmful (harmless?) medium. And they are a starting point for a conversation regarding these sorts of "sick" urges that people have that more often than not stay buried and ignored.
While I don't admire Issei in the least, I also don't loathe him. As for the starving dog "artist" - I'd love to repeatedly kick him in the balls.

I can't disagree with your statement NT. Lets just say if he had an art show in my town, I wouldn't go, but I wouldn't care if other people wanted to go. And nobody would give a shit about his art if he wasn't the guy who killed and ate a woman.

Dudes a murderer, and cannibalism aside, that girls trusted him and thought of him as a friend. He betrayed her - cannibalism or whatever sexual act made him bust a nut aside. He can talk about how living out his life in society is the worst punishment. He says he is sorry, but then he talks about savoring the taste of human flesh, and the meat developing over days and how he'd like to die by drowning in women's saliva, Yes, dying to one of his sexual perversions would be very just...since he's too much of a coward to kill himself I'm sure if you long for death and think it's fitting, holding a gun to your head and pulling the trigger can't be too hard. You already did it to your friend. He's not sorry at all, just using the word to make a living off his sexual fantasies and desires.

Well said. I can't stop thinking of the family of the victim watching him trying to cash in on the situation. Can't see why anything he's done would be complemented. Fuck his life, art and sick ass ideas.

sagawa's frequent reappearances serve only two purposes-

1. the artists/reporters/documentary-filmmakers use his disturbing story to garner attention to their own work. vbstv, manga artists, porno producers, mainstream media book sales, and television specials over the years are self-serving. do they really illustrate something new or unfold any of the meaning to sasagawa's case? or do they just reiterate it with another half-chapter added on for every five years of his life? i suspect the latter.

2. the awareness of sagawa's story nurtures the idea that fame can be successfully brokered from murderous perversion. this story only encourages young, lonely artists to use violent deviance against other humans as their path to glory. as long as you only do it once and convince every one you are just as confused as they are about your violent sexual aberrations, you can get away with it and pick up checks to re-tell your crime.

i still liked the film and the way it was done. the art of this vbs film is irresponsible in some ways, though i respect it.
