Re: The Walking Dead television series!!!!
So we got, like, 5 episodes? And, now we've to wait 10 months for another?
I just don't get it...somebody savy please explain.
So was the big SDCC presence important for any of this and/or how much money could have been saved and spent towards the actual series itself rather than the hype machine?
Has anybody read anything about what the TV masses thinks of the series?

Re: The Walking Dead television series!!!!
Hype = more viewers= higher ratings= more money from sponsors for AMC. As much as AMC is behind making interesting creative ground breaking shows, it is a network trying to make money (to make more great shows). Unfortunately in this day an age of tv shows, having a good show is only half the battle. There are no guarantees, which is why AMC probably only ordered 6 shows for the first season (and they used the show to kick of their Fear Fest) to make sure they didn't blow their wad on a show that didn't take off.
As far as waiting till next October for Season 2? Well they have to write/ make/ post production 13 episodes, and the network has to fit it into the schedule (with all the other shows). Should that take till next October? I wouldn't think so since they filmed these six in July/ August. But what do I know? They're probably using it to kick off Fear Fest again. Personally I think they should get cracking!

It's not always clear from the get-go that these "progressive dramas" will succeed ratings-wise, so the networks and investors are often jittery about commitment until they can have confidence in the ROI. That's why for example "Breaking Bad's" next season wasn't officially announced until well into the prior season, despite the intense appreciation among existing viewers and widespread critical acclaim. I'm as bummed as anyone about waiting so long for the series to pick up again but at least the product won't be rushed. This gives the writer(s) more time to hash the drama out in a way that works well, rather than rushing to production as was done in conventional 13-episode TV series in the past.

Re: The Walking Dead television series!!!!
The 1st season finale was great. By far the best TV I have watched in a very long time. I agree with Dean. More production time should equal a better more well thought out and executed season. As long as the show continues to be great, I can wait a bit longer for the next season.
Can't wait 'til Merle comes back with a chainsaw attached to his stump...

In the 5th episode when the two sisters are on the boat..it made me think about cruise ships. I haven't read the whole comic series but for anyone who has... have they explored going on cruise ships and hanging out at sea or at least close to shore? I'm assuming zombies can't swim.

Not yet in the comic book but you never know. Kirkman said he has never read Max Brook's 'World War Z' for fear of being influenced in his writing, and we all know how zombies can dwell underwater in his books...

Interesting, found this online: http://smyrna.patch.com/articles/the-de ... to-6566448Looks like they might be filming that scene in the books where they camp at the Estate for a night.

http://www.amctv.com/the-walking-dead/v ... -comic-conI love summer, and even though I love the fall as well it usually depresses me because I loathe the oncoming winter. BUT I kind of can not wait till October 16th! Especially with this heat.

 SPOILER ALERT!
So anyone want to discuss some of the things we saw in the 4.5 minute trailer? Scenes were pulled from various episodes I'm sure. Don't read further if you didn't read the books and don't want to know anything. Here's my dissection:
1) Obviously they're going to end up at Hershel's Farm from the last part. I just hope that is towards the end of the season because I know it's going to be a big arc and would rather see them surviving in the wilderness for a bit. AKA more zombie attacks. 2) The little girl Sophia is shown running away after an attack and the mother is held back by someone...Offing a little girl would show that this show is not afraid to kill 'anyone' I like this (and kids are annoying-sorry) 3) Shane going out on his own? He states it right there in the preview about maybe slipping away. Hmm interesting development. Could the beginning shot of him being chased by a horde of zombies be his ultimate demise? 4) Which leads me to say I saw several clips of division in the group, with several different characters saying to each other, let's leave and get out of here. So I wonder if we might have more than one surviving story lines going by the end of the season? 5) The church scene. I really hope they don't try an make these zombies intelligent in any way. Hanging out on the church pews, past life etc. Keep them slow, dumb and with one purpose.

Re: The Walking Dead television series!!!!
Wow Frank Darabont stepped down from the show. Critics are hailing this as a positive since Darabont works better on film and besides the pilot they say the show lacked direction...

Re: The Walking Dead television series!!!!
i can't really state either way as to the creative goings on behind the scenes. however, i know from interviews that darabont fought like hell for a long time to even make this happen as a tv show, and the writing staff shakeup post season 1 was part of his frustration with the ongoing format. it wouldn't surprise me if beyond him getting tired, there was major divisiveness with the creative team and the network about the direction of everything. on that note, i'm worried. good shows don't generally change up show-runners.
there's like a four minute season 2 trailer out there that's pretty badass. i'm sure it's nearly all filmed with darabont by now so i have optimism for good stuff in the second season. i wish they'd stick to the comics and not blow up actors from the green mile who provide little to no scientific or story development.

I'm having a hard time having high hopes for this season after how uneven last season was and then the firing/budgets/etc.

I agree, although it is a zombie show, so I will definitely be giving it a shot.
