I can name atleast 5 other makers of the top of my head that do this EXACT same thing yet they don't get this treatment.
This is a toy and should be taken that way, same goes for KAWS or any other "toy"
This toy is great, but at the end of the day it's just another cool toy with the same run size and original cost as any other toy.
All this other price maddness and bullshit is created by us not the creator. Obviously Shigeru's formula must be different than other Sofubi makers to create this reaction in us. That in itself sets him apart from the rest. (imo:) Shigeru is also more punk than any of us will ever be.

Yeah, at least he does not sell his Nags on YJA as official auctions! None of that bullshit from him.

Re: Angora Patio
Did anyone ever say what he does for a day job? I thought that was going to be the big SHOCKING reveal about 8,000,000 posts ago. If he was any more secretive, his toys would be released through Youth Attack.
I should add that I like the figure, but LOVE his paint work. So I'm not hating, just curious.

That in itself sets him apart from the rest. (imo:) Shigeru is also more punk than any of us will ever be. Shig is DEFINITELY more punk than me as I'm not punk what so ever lol. But being punk has nothing to do with collecting or following a person or company to me so I don't care to much about that. I must agree though that some artists do have that appeal / aura that makes them larger than life and pulls us in for what ever reasons and Shig definitely has that it seems. His toy creation formulia isn't really different than other makers as what he has done has been done before. But he did set him self up with the right people to really draw attention to his toys which was a great move. And he kept with them creating more and more projects not just a 1 time thing and than moved on. Paul Kaiju off the bat with a release, then the Mishka family and then COOP. All these amazing artist being attached to this has in no doubt helped him blow up. But that's not a bad thing, its all this that has made his brand what it is. I really like the people he picked and love what they do and collect their stuff. So maybe we have the same taste and he has narrowed in on that. Could he do it alone, probably yes, but with this help it really added another element. So maybe its not the the toy run size, paint app and all that is making this different, but all the other stuff that he has done to improve on the model. Funny none of this crossed my mind until I wrote it ..... On the surface it seemed the same but things like this that no other toy maker is doing must be helping in setting him apart. Who knows maybe I'm just thinking to much as well now and have been pulled into this as well I did say on the 1st page with in the first few posts that this toy alone is amazing just based on the sculpt alone. I still feel the same today so that is not hype that's the foundation of a timelessly loved toy. Does all this tough justify the insane prices ? And usually a huge reaction and instant jump in prices is not the greatest thing in the long run, look at RxH. Those toys where the huge "it" toy with some serious flipping and even more serious prices when he blew up. Now you cant give away some of those classics..... Time will tell though right ...

Re: Angora Patio
He makes toys in his spare time i don't see what his job has to do with anything? And i think one of the reasons these got hyped apart from the fact they are a brilliant toy is the mystery behind the maker.

Re: Angora Patio
Someone in the know (Greg, I think) mentioned that it would come out soon and that things would make more sense. I attempted to look through the thread to find it but quickly lost interest. Just curious since it was hinted at but never answered. No big deal, just curious!

As Lovecraft would have it the greatest of horrors are best left undescribed and guessed at for maximal effect.... I used to be fascinated with Bruce Chatwin as a person...before i read his biography. I would have thought Henry Rollins was way more badass if i didn't know he was a son of DCs upper class who once stayed at my wealthiest friends place while on tour in his early B.F. days cause their dads were friends. Finding out that the brains behind NAGx3 turns out to make a living as a beautician, mortician, pornographer, mafioso, snake oil manufacturer or "The Flipper King" wouldn't add much to the aura of the Genjin.

Knowing that I'm buying a toy made from a man that poses naked in the streets of japan with his art.... kind of makes the $1000 price tag.

Re: Angora Patio
Well he's off to a good start (pretty much naked), but he needs to find himself a ring, some rice, and an opponent. I will wrestle Shig for a 4-eyed Nag, so just need a ring and some rice. Coop is that for real? I know the pic is funny, but is he really into that stuff?
