Theres a great documentary about the whole scam, i think it was shown on PBS Frontline. The De Beers Monopoly, the Diamonds are Forever campaign, the end of diamond rarity once we figured out how to find them through kimberlite chimneys etc...

I repeat emeralds are the shit, a down payment on a house and a nice trip ( like an african safari or trekking in Bhutan) are even better !
