I'm sure it went like this: "Soooooooo it's NOT a Hellboy prequel? I dunno, forget it now."

Re: at the mountains of madness
"“Madness,” as he imagined it, would not be particularly gory, but he insisted that he needed the artistic freedom (HA!) “to make it really, really uncomfortable and nasty.” Del Toro had hoped that a greenlight for “Madness” would mark a new golden age for horror films."
I just looked it up, the only Del Toro movie a saw is Hellboy and we all know how bad it was. Those turds just can't compare to the comics and novels and thus, what he would "artisticaly interpret" from Lovecraft is only what really scares me about all this.

Re: at the mountains of madness
to each their own, but you should watch some of his other films, especially pan's labyrinth. there's a reason why he was the original choice to do the hobbit films and why cameron wanted to work with him.

Re: at the mountains of madness
So Nefasth, if I understand correctly you don't think Del Toro should be doing Lovecraft? If you thought Hellboy wasn't good (which I think it's not his best work at all) it probably was because he was restrained by the commercial aspects of the movie. And this is exactly what he was trying to avoid now. I think Cronos, Pan's Labyrinth, Devil's backbone and El Orfanato show best what he is capable of.

Too bad this is suffering a death by stupid fuck bean counters. nefasth wrote: I just looked it up, the only Del Toro movie a saw is Hellboy Expand your universe! Like Axolotl said, see Cronos, Pan's Labyrinth and The Devil's Backbone. (del Toro did not do The Orphanage [and I thought it was kinda meh]) He aleady did a bad film due to his hands tied by Hollywood - Mimic.

Re: at the mountains of madness
I thought he was like producer or something for The Orphanage! Anyways, I do remember Mimic but can't remember if I liked it or not.

He produced it I'm pretty sure, just didn't direct it. I liked it enough, but not as much as the films he directed. I've never seen Mimic. I think the Hellboy movies were done as well as they could be considering the way Hollywood is. I like Del Torro's movies generally. I'm actually relieved he dropped the project for the reasons he did instead of going on with it and having to hold back thanks to studios.

Not him particuliary. I just don't see the point in bringing books and comics to the big sreen all the time. Biff wrote: Expand your universe! That's what I'm doing by not caring about this stuff

But seriously, see some of Del Torros other flicks (non-US) they're pretty good.
