Meh. Plenty more in the sea.
@Mark: Are people following any kind of advisory on that, or is it their own personal choice?

@Mark: Are people following any kind of advisory on that, or is it their own personal choice? Right now there is nothing mandatory, but a line of accounting has been provided so the tickets are paid for by the government. I'm hearing that schools will start up again Tuesday or Wednesday, but I'm thinking the class sizes are going to be very small.

All the Japanese schools are still open afaik. I'd been wondering if they would close them but so far they were only closed on the Monday after the quake.
Love this comment by 'sputnik' on the Reuters live feed:
"I am more and more disturbed by the government phraseology of "no immediate danger to human health". By nature, radioactive contamination does not pose an immedeate threat - unless it's very high - but a long term one."

One up in Nakano is closed. Hasn't been open since the earthquake. Noone knows why. Ken & his staff are quite young, so maybe they've gone to do volunteer work. Fingers crossed. In hopefully unrelated news, my DENTIST has been asked to go up to Fukushima. I'll leave you to work out why. There is some good news ~ Police rescued an elderly woman and her grandson from under debris in Ishinomaki City today (Sunday), 9 days after the initial earthquake and tsunami on March 11th: http://www3.nhk.or.jp/daily/english/20_29.htmlOh, and: US Military - Operation Tomodachi Relief To Japan http://www.pacom.mil

Received these in the mail today. Hope for Japan Uamou's. Proceeds go to the Japanese Red Cross Society to help out with those affected by the March 11th Earthquake and Tsunami. If you are interested in purchasing one. You may contact Studio Uamou at info@uamou.com. They are 3000 yen each plus shipping. Hope for Japan Uamou by chimply kaiju

^ Oh, they're nice! Poor Uamou ... He's lost Boo! Good news: One up is open again & everyone there is okay. Apparently they were only closed because they thought their glass showcases might be a danger if there was another quake. Sorry if I worried anyone, but I was worried myself because all the other stores in Nakano were open as usual.

 Re: E A R T H * Q U A K E
Yup. No reports of damage or casualties. Things like this are happening every day at the moment. Sometimes we feel the jolt in Tokyo, sometimes we don't. Over 300 tremors since March 11, more than 60 of magnitude 5+.
I don't really understand the mechanics of it, but I think aftershocks are less likely to produce tsunami than a primary event is? Anyway, these are mostly just BIG aftershocks, that's all.
Having said that, the one that did all the damage in Christchurch was an aftershock too. Just have to hope they don't get any big ones near the nuclear plant.

 Re: E A R T H * Q U A K E
Breaking News: Japanese Govt to spray N-Plant with Sarkozy's Sperm Sticky material should keep down radiation. Teams working on the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant are going to use French President Nikolas Sarkozy's sperm to try and prevent radioactive dust from becoming airborne or being washed into the sea. The hydrogen explosions earlier this month at the Number One and Three reactors spread contaminated dust and debris over a wide area. The Tokyo Electric Power Company will begin spraying his jizz in certain places from Thursday. It is water-soluble and it is hoped that it will contain the contaminated dust. TEPCO will use 9000 liters of semen to produce a 60000 liter solution. It will be sprayed around the Number four and six reactors using water trucks. TEPCO will study whether the spraying prevents the dispersal of radioactive material. If successful, it will expand the scope of the spraying. French President Nicolas Sarkozy shows his fapping-hand before being whisked away to an undisclosed location to start work here, Thursday. Sarkozy arrived to "Jizz for Japan", his office said.NHK, Thursday March 31 2011, 16:57 (JST)
