Re: Beer Bier Cerveza Bière بيرة Пиво Pivo Bira ビール
I'd love to try the Rasputin stout as well as the Vertical Epic (gewurztraminer all the way!). I'd also suggest anyone who hasn't, try any Innis and Gunn they can get a hold of; it is well worth the extra price, even if only for one bottle. For anyone looking for something different, try getting your hands on an authentic rauchbier, e.g. It's an acquired taste but I love it. There is even an app for the regional breweries if you're in Germany. Being a broke student, I'd have to say my local favourite is the Boreal Noire. Great price, great beer. Now where is the thread for the beers we hate?

Re: Beer Bier Cerveza Bière بيرة Пиво Pivo Bira ビール
I gave up drinking when I got married and became a dad, but when I did drink, I loved beer. I'm a bit surprised that no one has mentioned this one yet: Newcastle and Boddingtons were my two favorite everyday beers. Chimay, Duvel, Maudite, Delerium Tremens, and La Fin du Monde were my favorite higher octane brews. Red Hook's Double Black Stout is pretty nice, although after a couple of pints, the coffee is a bit overpowering. Youngs Double Chocolate Stout was my favorite dessert beer. If I was trying to forget how to tie my shoes, then I would go for the Dogfish 90 minute IPA.

Picked up a few of these: A big, belgian-style Wit brewed with coriander and orange peel and fermented with Pinot Noir juice. After fermentation a fraction of the batch is aged in one of our giant oak tanks. This has been one of our most popular Limited Edition beers at both our Rehoboth Beach, DE brewpub and at festivals. It successfully marries the refreshing citrusy qualities of a Belgian-style white beer with the robust complexity of a bold red wine.

The Red & White may be my favorite Dogfish brew, haven't had one in awhile. Chateau Jihau is also very tasty.
Trois Pistoles from Unibrou is also one to try.

I'm really surprised Unibroue is so popular south of the border. You can only recently find it in shops out west in Canada. Raftman is good, as well as any of the Chamblys. I know I am going to get a lot of flack for this, but I must be the only one who doesn't like the Dogfish IPA

I'm pretty sure that at the time, I was about a 5 hour drive from Montreal. Now they're starting to show up in the local supermarkets.

Nothing beats a good Boréal tho '

It's funny that you mention that about the Trader Joe's beer, because when I first saw the picture the bottle reminded me of the Unibroue 10 bottle, with the foil printing and the font used for the volume/alcohol content.

I like that one much better than the 90 minute. I like both. The 90 minute really destroys your palette. I usually can't get the full flavor out of beer after having a 90 minute. There is a bar in Downtown LA that has 90 minute on draft for $3 a pint!

Geez. Sad news indeed. Here is a list of Inbev/AB brands http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/InBev_brands Some of them were a little surprising to me. Try to support independent craft brewers as much as possible.

Re: Beer Bier Cerveza Bière بيرة Пиво Pivo Bira ビール
just tried some Saison du Buff as mentioned above by booschwobe as well as Arrogant Bastard Ale for the first time...both taste to me like a rotten lillypad that a frog took a shit on and then died, but I really like them both in an odd way. I'm not trying to be funny or a dick or something, it's really what I imagine some kind of weird plant matter or like, jungle vines would taste like. so earthy/funky/garbage-y, like nothing I've had before in my really limited experience. completely surprised me
also tried a couple more from Victory, the Prima Pils and Hop Wallop, neither being too much my thing, but the latter slightly better

I actually enjoy the Saison du Buff. Also there is another Stone collaboration that just came out. I like this one. I also like this one. The only collaboration I don't like at all is the Black ale.

Re: Beer Bier Cerveza Bière بيرة Пиво Pivo Bira ビール
There's a new brew-pub, Breakside Brewery, that opened up a few blocks away - finally went over and gave it a try. So far I like everything I've tasted - a lot! The first beer I had was a wheat beer brewed with spruce - VERY tasty. The spruce was very present, but not overly strong. It reminded me a bit of a ginger beer (soda). I also had a strong ale brewed with cocoa, serrano and habañero - again, the flavors were easily identifiable but not overpowering. There was just a phantom spiciness to it. Also tried the IPA which was quite good - floral and not too bitter. And the wit was very clean and refreshing - the spices much more subtle than Blue Moon (one of my wife's favorites). And there are several others that I really want to go back and try. Best "new beer" experience in quite a while!

Re: Beer Bier Cerveza Bière بيرة Пиво Pivo Bira ビール
Anyone that has spent any amount of time in Japan probably figured out that as amazing as this country is, there are two things that are massively lacking. And, unfortunately for me, these are two things which I have a great love for; coffee and beer. I should clarify; I am not saying they don't exist here, quite the opposite. Both 'coffee' in its many horrible incarnations and beer are available in ample supply here, in the many many conbinis, not to mention the millions of vending machines (though I have to say that since I was here last, it is much less convenient as both beer and cigarettes dispenseries are now controlled through governmental ID cards). To get to the point, the beer is less than stellar, so your best best is to stil with the 98 Yen varieties. So hopefully people who understand what I am on about will appreciate the fact that I managed to score some microbrews recently. In particular, I highly recommend Minoh. Their dark lager (not shown here) is truly amazing. There is a great write-up available for any interested http://beerinjapan.com/bij/1172/minoh-beer-osaka/ I will keep updating as I try some of the others.

Just had some Stone collaboration Cherry Chocolate Stout and Japanese Green Tea. I liked the stout over the IPA. The stout had a nice bitter chocolate taste in the beginning and ended on a sweet cherry finish. The IPA was mildly bitter and you can definitely smell the green tea. When you drink it, the tea is more subtle of a flavor in the beer.
