 Re: Black Metal
Hmm, only one mention for Chicago's very own Nachtmystium? One amazing band and really solid live \m/

I guess you still might call them psychedelic black metal, but with each release the emphasis is way more on the other aspects than the standard BM proceedings. Not that that's a bad thing, but....

Anyway, Antaeus are pretty damn good. You might also like Glorior Belli and Ofermod. I was pretty surprised when I heard about Whitehead. It certainly made me look at my tattoos from him a bit differently. That's funny -- I'm curious to see what you have that was done by him! I've been listening to a lot of 'Cascadian' bm lately -- Addaura, Alda, Dispirit, Krallice, Panopticon, Skagos, Threnos and the like. I love it dearly.

Recently I've really been getting into Xasthur. Really weird stuff, but it rules. Any fans on here?

 Re: Black Metal
Mamaleek - Kurdaitcha http://www.enemieslist.net/mamaleek/ Certainly not kvlt at all, either, but I highly recommend this to bm fans who are adventurous listeners in the least bit. Also recommended bm / post-rock / shoegaze influenced stuff: Cold Body Radiation - The Great White Emptiness (one of my favorite releases of 2010) deafheaven - Demo deafheaven - Roads to Judah Heretoir - .Existenz. Hypomanie - A City in Mono Lantlôs - .neon Murmuüre - s/t (highly, highly recommended) Sleeping Peonies - Ghosts, and Other Things

 Re: Black Metal
^ deafheaven are pretty fantastic, equal parts Krallice and Mono. Strange they were picked up by deathwish. Cold body radiation sound great, thanks for the heads up Negative Plane is a great band I just found out about, loud.brutal.beautiful

 Re: Black Metal
The movie a lot of those clips are from (August Underground's Mordum) is pretty lame / great.
Aaanyway, back on topic. I've been listening to a lot of old doom stuff lately, but as for bm:
Ash Borer - s/t Ash Borer / Fell Voices - Split Fell Voices - s/t Fell Voices - Untitled Lake of Blood - As Time and Tide Erodes Stone (really decent atmospheric melodic usbm) Petrychor - Dryad Velnias - Sovereign Nocturnal (kind of blackened folk usbm)

 Re: Black Metal
"Liturgy are the first black metal band that truly embodies the ghosts of New York. They play metal like it's a minimalist downtown art/life/religion project in the tradition of dronemasters Glenn Branca, Rhys Chatham and La Monte Young's Dream Syndicate. Through their own brand of growling, gnarling, lightning-fast black grind, Liturgy try to find euphoria through dissonance, repetition and volume--turning metal nightmares into something ready for the Dream House. -Village Voice" HAHAHAHAHA ! Fuck you Liturgy, that BM band truly embodies the ghosts of New York !

 Re: Black Metal
I like both Liturgy and Hemlock. But, haters gonna hate. I have not heard the new Liturgy yet, though. Curious if it's any good. I've been listening to this a lot lately: Shaidar Logoth - Chapter I: The Peddler It's free, just put $0 in the amount field. I have been thinking about starting to collect bm cassettes. I probably don't need to chase any other formats (after amassing quite a vinyl collection over only one year into it, with no plans of stopping), so it might just be a fleeting desire. I've got a shitty boombox that I purchased solely to listen to a tape, but does anyone happen to have any input in this department? Know of any good but inexpensive tape decks, etc.?

Still, would like to check it out for myself. Have you heard Christian Mistress? You seem to be into a lot of different genres, which is great, so I'm curious what you'd think of them.
