There's a van that drives around downtown every day, covered in scripture, and a loudspeaker blathering on about this nonsense.
If all the godbotherers really do go away on May 21st, it really will be paradise!

...just have the billboards around here. I frequent a glenn beck website to argue with people about labor unions, there are some oddballs on there to say the least. They very much believe this stuff and are looking forward to it. Several of them talk about taking up arms and stuff. My only fear is that a group of them will try something stupid to bring it on.

He says, "Well, since you asked..." and hands me a pamphlet explaining Judgement Day. So, apparently, he expects to be "raptured" away and not have to come back to work again. SERIOUSLY?!? Please keep us updated on this guy! There are some billboards around Sacramento, but it is apparently all tied to some guy who has repeatedly made predictions like this.

Amen to that! I agree as a follower of the word of God it makes me sick to see people act like this and going out and judging others and trying to scare people with end times talk.

 Re: Rapture?
Someone mentioned that these kind of people don't do any harm but I wholeheartedly disagree... As an atheist that comes from a christian household I've seen first hand the damage that Christianity does to a family, from constant infighting over ideals, even up to my fathers death...
My father was a Christian, he also believed that faith and prayer would help his constant stomach pains... So when he would watch television and some asshole would say "I see god healing a man with stomach pains" my dad listened. He donated a lot of cash to the faith based hucksters television for prayer, but when it turned out that he had stomach cancer, and needed a whole lot more than empty words from assholes in suits, I didn't see god sending money for his surgeries... This story isn't uncommon as for cheap thrills I'll turn on TBN (Trinity Broadcasting Network) during a fundraiser and watch them "pray" over tens, of thousands, of people with needs... (Prayers usually run about 50-100 dollars a sheet)
No more $500K and a million dollars per year, and no $10 million seaside mansion, forget the private jets with annual operating costs of about $1.5 million, goodbye Mercedes SUV and convertible, valued at about $80,000 each. Not to mention the homosexual meth fueled weekend trysts, while your beard is at home getting serviced by the pool boy. Do you think these pastors want to give up the lifestyles of the rich and famous so they can go worship a god for the rest of their life?
The answer is no, when it comes down to it religion has been cycled through the years. There's always someone on top and the rest of the believers sucking it all up... People have been saying that there are signs of the end times forever now, but with the advent of the internet, it's becoming harder and harder to lie to people, because it's so easy to "Google it" and find out the truth.
Don't get me wrong I'm not an atheist because "I'm mad at god" or the old "Why didn't god save my dad" shtick, I just think my dad was taken by con men, and I'm atheist, because in reality the idea of there being a god just seem infantile i.e. see Penn and Tellers "The Bible is Bullshit" for Clarity. The fact that we give these dicks tax exempt status, and letting them have free reign to scare our old folks into making them rich is sad, and dangerous...
So what do you guys want to talk about next, how about politics?

I saw one of these billboards on my bus ride after work today. Mildly horrified and threw up a little.

What we need is a good 'ole human cleansing. Then there won't be anyone left to complain about anything. Clitorectomy is a funny word, and I will proceed to pretend I came up with it.

 Re: Rapture?
I had this really great idea. I was going to go to Goodwill and buy all the cheap shirts, pants and shoes I could afford. I'd then scatter them around town just before the rapture to make it look like people got sucked up by Jeebus in mid-step. I even thought about putting some "RAPTURE IS COMING 5/21!!!!11!!1" signs next to the clothes to make it look like some fundie nut-job had been holding it just before rapture time.
I figured this was a lot of work, though. So I'm just gonna sit home and drink all this beer I bought instead.
