I totally forgot there was even a sequel to the first one, oh that's right it had a terminator in it.

I've heard many say otherwise but this will not be a waste of time for me. I put up with the disgusting, terrible "humor" and other BS of the second one more than once because the effects and the combat were just too awesome. I'm not fancy enough to have any kind of home theater setup, and some stuff is just must-be-big-screen for me, so there's no way I can't go out and see this at least once. The curiosity's too much, and I can afford a movie venture every once in a long while, so why not? Not expecting anything perfect, I'll be able to put up with the dumb shit again I'm sure.

(I don't mean to direct any of the following at GoldenArmKid's "could it get any more distant from the source material.", just kind of ranting about things I've heard all over the place. I don't know anything about how much he's into Transformers or how bothered he is by the new movies. Just want to give my opinion.)

I grew up surrounded by Transformers myself, though I was started on Beast Wars, I do get the whole thing about it not being like the original...but c'mon, it's gonna happen. I wasn't at all happy when "Mega Man: NT Warrior" or whatever the hell it's called came around, thinking "Kids out there are gonna think this is the REAL Mega Man! That's WRONG!"...but I was 12 then. I can get over it now. I can tell people anywhere I go, "I prefer the older stuff. I like the original series and the X series a lot better". Parts of the "Rebuild of Evangelion" series of movies make me cringe, but whether it's me or fans further down the line, people will be around for a very long while to educate newcomers to the stuff about what came first if it matters to them. I LOVE the opportunity to sit down and watch that series with people and guide them through it, I've lost count of how many times it's happened. Fans of the original Transformers materials can all do their little part to keep memories and love of it alive, even if they don't have as much time to dick around as I do. Just keep it a part of your life and any small part of those around you and you're doing good!

In the meantime I guess I should be crossing my fingers, and hoping that this is only my current stance because I haven't seen anything completely earth-shakingly dreadful enough happen to Evangelion or something else I'm super into to ruin it for me

Lastly, just a small thing...I don't see these movies for the girls (duh) but holy crap is this new one irritatingly ugly to look at. Sorry, whoever you are, but I'm sure I'm going to dislike having to watch you on-screen even more than I disliked mostly-gross Megan. A lot have told me I have weird taste, though. I guess I'll deal, and just hope she doesn't have too much screen time for my liking. I don't even want a "hot" female running around in a movie like that, just one who doesn't look so...dumb? I dunno

I usually don't bother ranting about these things but I just happened to catch this trailer as it was released so i thought I would post it up, in hindsight maybe i should not have bothered because i am sure everyone's grandmother and pet cat will have seen this trailer by the end of the week.

I guess like a ton of other people I'm tired of seeing all these hollywood adaptations fall short, NOTHING LOOKS NEW HERE, it just looks like the same hollywood blockbuster i walked out of disappointed by last time i went to the theatre. Seriously we have Green Lantern, Thor, X-Men First Class, Akira, the rumored new TMNT movie and now Transformers 3 to look forward to within the next year or so, i just hope at least one of these films does some justice to it's source material.

I wish I could be as optimistic as you Gareth and I definitely have enjoyed sharing my nostalgia with people who may have not been exposed to the original material, especially younger members of my family who I would hope could enjoy this as much as I did when I was younger, but unlike yourself I'm not wasting my money seeing this in the theatre.

I hate Michael Bay stuff, but I'll be in the theater with you guys because I like transformers. I'm kicking myself for being such a sucker for this--especially since i didn't like the first two that much. oh well. go Bayformers...sigh...

Did you not see Bumblebee and Optimus Prime? Once you tick them off the list you can do anything you like.
