What Will Happen To Your Collection?
Sometimes when I look around I wonder what will become of all these toys? Will I eventually sell them? Will my kids want them? Will they sell them? Will my wife sell them after i'm gone? will they get thrown in the trash? Will they be thrown in bins waiting for the next owner of this house to discover? Will they be given away to a charity or museum one day? Will they be discovered 40 years from now on an episode of "Storage Wars"?
I guess we will really never know. What do you think will happen to your collection? If you could specify something specific after you leave, what would it be?

Re: What Will Happen To Your Collection?
My wife and daughter won't want them and I currently don't believe my son will either. My wife has instructions on who to contact if something should happen to me, so my figures will just recycle around to some hardcore folks on this board.

Re: What Will Happen To Your Collection?
assuming they don't leave me first, after the dust settles the descendants of the ones who were wise enough to hide underground will think them totems or back-scratchers and use them accordingly.
that's a silly answer though. in the immediate future few even know the value of the toys or my presence on boards. i assume they'd end up at some sort of secondhand store.

I don't think my wife would know what to do with my stuff. She'd keep my Miltons and my giant toys I guess...maybe the stuff I designed myself and give the rest to a kids hospital.

Re: What Will Happen To Your Collection?
Speaking about this last night as we have had a huge clear out as starting to plan for kids and my toys are being moved to my mams which aint ideal but we need the room and I can display them all there so not so bad
I have kept around 100 in the house but it seems like nothing compared to all the ones sitting in boxes, but anyway we chatted about what I would do with them, she was like never sell them, and we I said what would you do with them she said she would go and Skullbrain and sell all of them to people who cared, but keep a few
I was thinking about selling all my Damnedrons but just cant do it as I love em but paying off the overdraft would be nice

Haha, great thread! My focus is on building some kids who I will drill to love and proceed collecting. If I won't succeed I really like how the old egyptians did it and i will take my toys to the afterlife. The Burial goods found in there toombs pretty much resemble our toy collections;)

Re: What Will Happen To Your Collection?
If I suddenly died, my collection would end up in the trash I believe. My g/f hates the toys so she would probably not want the reminder around. Don't know if I'll ever be a dad since I'm 42, but it would be great to have something to leave a kid. If I'm childless and live into old age I'll sell them (can't take it with you and social security won't be there for me I'm sure) or go crazy and take a flamethrower to the whole collection!

Re: What Will Happen To Your Collection?
I was actually disussing this with my wife yesterday. She's made it clear she doesn't want to go through the hassle of posting them here. They might end up in storage till my kids decide what to do with them. But I've given her instructions to contact someone here who would hopefully sell them and bring the kids/wife some cash. Ultimately, unless they're properly listed, they won't bring any money.
Without going as far as death though, I'm thinking of five, ten years in the future. Will I still care? I'll realisitically have to start selling a lot more if I keep buying all this time. I have thousands of records and cds I should sell since everyhing is digitized, but the hassle of doing it means I still have shelves and shelves of them... The same might be true of toys...

I think there is lots to learn for me from most of you SB OG's. Some of you passed the 30s and 40s some time ago and are still going strong! So i guess me marking the 26 years of age meens I have at least 20 years more of collecting to do before even thinking about what Will Happen To Your Collection..

Re: What Will Happen To Your Collection?
I sometimes ask myself what happened to all that stuff I owned when I was a kid - the stretch armstrong green monster, the various micronauts, the slime monster board game... I wonder if they're still around somewhere. Never really thought of my current collection (or what will be left of it by then) as I'll probably finish up leaving it to my loved ones for sale...

Re: What Will Happen To Your Collection?
I guess I just always assumed it was inevitable that I would have to sell them at some point. (due to space or priority or loss of interest decisions) It is nice to think that I could get a lot of the money I've invested in them back out, should an emergency happen. There aren't many hobbies that work that way.
But I also assume that I will keep a handful (<10) that will stay with me forever. I'm curious which ones will make the cut.

Re: What Will Happen To Your Collection?
Ive instructed my wife that if anything happens to me, my Pus collection goes to artist/tattooist/esquire/ and all around awesome guy, Kenny Brown. She said she'd most likely keep my Green KvP and my all green Siamese captain, to remember me by. Id prob have some of my art prints sent to CrabRangoon, Kirkland, Atease, and other carefully selected members. My Pelican variant print from their D.C. show at Rock&Roll Hotel (by Florian Bertmer) would go to Alex #Super7 because I know how much he digs the way Florian's signature, mirrors Pushead.

Re: What Will Happen To Your Collection?
It's pretty sad and disturbing to hear that so many of your better halves would just throw away or sell your beloved stuff.
My collection is an extension of me, its what I love. My girl would never get rid of that unless I asked her to, and even then I bet she wouldn't. I don't have kids yet, but would hope they could enjoy some of this. I come from a long line of hoarders so it would have to be in their DNA not to throw it away.
If I could ask for anything, it would be to donate it to some local small gallery or museum that would have it. No big name place, but something that would appreciate something like this. And if it where my toys, I would like them displayed with the molds and original sculpture so that who ever saw them would have a better understanding of how a toy can be made. I'm sure there has to be someone out there who would like to see that ?
If selling was the plan than I would like to see what ever was made go to helping pay off bills to help with the struggle or going toward an education for someone etc...
We spend all this time enjoying this hobby, and if you significant other thinks what your doing is foolish and would just throw it all away or pawn it ....

Re: What Will Happen To Your Collection?
I have left detailed instructions about what toys will be sealed in the pyramid with me along with my concubines, faithful servants, and livestock.
Of course, my wife will most likely just put them on eBay.

Re: What Will Happen To Your Collection?
I've been hiding hermetically sealed caches of kaiju all around the desert. To be discovered long after the last drops of carbohydrates have been used up. Their value is going to be so far beyond what I've payed for them that the lucky discoverer will be able to build huge colonies of zombie-proof fortresses, providing shelter to your descendants, among others. So, that's how I pay it forward.. you're welcome.

Re: What Will Happen To Your Collection?
My wife walks into my room about 3-4 times a week and asks me when I am going to sell all of this or am I going to keep it until I die.
I have started not answering.

I guess I never thought of this either. I think I will leave a tiny rolled up will inside of one of my clear skullmen so that while whoever is sorting through my estate they will see it and follow my directions from beyond the grave.
I will only sell if I come across really hard times, and it would be very select. and probably not worth anything anyway.

My wife actually says she sincerely admires my dedication and passion, and she likes some pieces, she simply doesn't share the interest. If she kept something to remember me by, it wouldn't be a toy. Nothing sad there I think. This said, my wife helped me with the store, I do tell her about most pieces I get (+she's Japanese), so she's probably as knowledgeable about kaiju as most people here (well, minus us ocds)... What I find sad is people who have to lie about how much they're spending on toys... That's a definite sign of addiction!
