Re: Angora Patio
am i the only person who thinks this toy gets more boring with every release? what was once so fresh and so new has become weak and self-derivative for me. though i admit the four-eyes is appealing, it would be more appealing on a new body.
also, totally turned off by the self-importance that emanates from this toy. of course that's just my jaded perspective, but does kanye own one yet?

I wish it'd even come in the old cardboard packaging. Even better, made of squish foam.

Re: Angora Patio
Look i like Mishka and L'Amour, they do mostly good work with good people. Mishka has created a distinct and approachable brand for themselves with a great offering of products and art. Joel is a killer artist and illustrator whose work I admire. COOP is also obviously a very talented and successful artist with skills I also admire. Nagnagnag is this one toy.
Some mild variations aside, it's just this one bemon-esque body with heads seemingly modeled after decaying vintage doll heads. In itself, that idea is fine. What else defines this company?
Okay, nagballs. Oh so these are bootleg Madballs? This is hardly an original idea. When Mishka and L'Amour did it with their Bootleg Kaiju, it resonated. It worked. These are two guys who grew up with Madballs, collect vintage bootleg Madballs, and were in certain ways very influenced by the particular pop-culture monster paraphenalia being marketed to boys in 1980s America. Greg and Joel have a fairly personal touch with their fans. We know many of their tastes and opinions from the bloglin and from posts here.
What we know about Nag is that Nag likes to be mysterious and provocative. Nag likes to attach himself to popular hip young American artists and through them reach a broader non-Japanese audience and then to start doing exclusive lottery sales. "Made in Occupied Japan" indeed. Their Nagballs are boring. Because they are not really aiming to do "good" work, they are aiming to obliquely insert themselves in the hipster art world by attaching themselves to Mishka and Coop. Neither of which need Nagnagnag to be successful. I doubt it would have worked so well for them had both of them not helped out so early on. Or wait, it would have. Nag would have found somebody else.

I think calling it a company may be your first problem. Shigeru is not really a company nor is Nagnagnag a 'brand'. It's no different then Bemon, Gorilla-Ju, or anyone in Japan who's has a passion for this stuff and took the time to follow it with a design, mold, and some painting skill. Everyone has to start with one sculpt. Shigeru's just happens to be amazing.

Re: Angora Patio
If you think this one sculpt defines Shig then you are sorely mistaken my friend. He shits brilliance and every artist famous or not would love to work with him. His work inspires people to create which I feel is the most important aspect of being an artist. Think about all the Nag art created from this one sculpt.

this thread should be moved to American Idols anyway. it's been 2/3 USA since day 2. He's mysterious and provocative in your one post, fame whore in the second. I see you know all about the person you speak. Maybe you should read the thread and the experiences people who have worked with him have had.

Re: Angora Patio
or you could reply to my post point by point if you choose to defend. i'm just stating my opinion in a forum. i believe that "fame whore" was implied in my detailed post.
also, nag just upped my Benetton coupon to $75, daddy's going belt shopping. coop that's your cue for a racy photo....
