That is seriously a splendid custom of yours! Can you buy that metal flake stuff separately to mix into the paints? If so, what are some good sources?

It's from House of Color. I get it from an airbrush supply in Aneheim CA. that sells small jars for smaller projects.
Can't find it on the site, but you could e mail them. It's a super fine flake.

you mix it with a clear and you really need to keep the airbrush moving because the flake sinks and you want it to flow out even.

Thanks for the advice, Paul. I definitely want to experiment with some of that flake. I'll have to check out a recent airbrush magazine I got too; I think there were a lot of ads for House of Color products featured in there...

Paul-that paint job is sweet-I wonder how a clear fig w/some pearl additive would look???House of Color is the absolute best-I used to do autobody and paint work..What kind of sprayer did you use-I have an Asturo HVLP and man it works great!!!Still wanna get a new airbrush.Ive got an old Badger for scale modeling but its way beat and needs to be scrapped...

Would look amazing!
As long as it's fine enough to flow through an airbrush, or you are using a larger spraygun I don't see why not!
Right now I use an Iwata HP-C.

Quote: very, very cool - the little eyes are what make blobpus really kick - small details but they matter The neatest thing was with the innocent, you could paint the inside silver, then tint certain parts on the outside surface, giving a totally organic effect. I've rendered many toys and concepts, but unless you have a name that would sell you're poop outta' lunch without cream for your coffee. Way of the wild . More blanks please.[/quote]

It really is a great paint job. Does the paint and flake you used work at all well using a handbrush and thin washes? Or is the airbrush the only way to go?

I'm afraid airbrush is the only way.

That is very nice! I was just reading about that metal flake in a air brush mag. Does it clog up your brush pretty fast or just like normal paint?

I actually mixed the raw flak in with the Vcolor clear. The paint requires major thinner and needs to be applies rather quickly before all the flake sinks to the bottom of the paint. It's all timing.

I scored some of that flake and it's on the way, but I think that I only got the mini flake...probably I need to get the ultra mini size to pass through a typical airbrush nozzle aperture.
The mini was $6.95 per oz. from Coast Airbrush, but the ultra mini is more like $21.95 for the same amount. HOK sure has a lot of other interesting products for sparkle, like the ice and pearls too.
