from what i can tell, there's a fat head and a skinny head, but i think the bodies are the same:

The skinny head is Baltan 2; the fat head is Baltan 1. Baltan 1 is the version featured in the Marusan/Bullmark toy; Baltan 2 has been made by M1.

Oh snap there are distinct differences. I'll edit my post. Thanks for the references also Daniel. So the GID versions (pink gid, green gid?) are the skinny head versions.

Does anyone want me to make this into a separate thread in Japan Toys and name it 'Butanohana Database', so we can just leave this thread for pics instead of a derail? Or just maybe rename the 'New Butanohana' thread that? I'd love to just keep it as a reference for everyone.

Hey Lixx, Thanks for supplying this list. My vote would for it to be in a separate thread in Japan Toys titled "ButaNoHana Database". You could also call it "everyone's wishlist"!

Created a database thread in Japan Toys-

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=39197

therefore this thread can return to normal pic goodness!

Nice GID gorilla Jay! Does anyone know if the brown giant gorilla is the only one that is made of very squishy vinyl? I know the pink one isn't. Feels very rubbery compared to all other Buta figs I've seen.

The brown gorilla and some of the older dinos were made on that squishy vinyl.

Thanks! I haven't seen any of the older dinos in person, so good to know.

Super huge thanks to a fellow boardie who hooked me up with three very beautiful and hard to find pieces. Here is the whole crew congregating on my drawing board to welcome the new guys. Eryops may be my new favorite piece of vinyl!

That Eryops is stunning, the metallic paint really pops in your photo.

Congrats!

Thanks guys! The eyrops has so much buta character, i can not capture it on digital film. The seabozu was bought on the boards 6 months ago and i got there a day late. This was the same time period The Flynn sale happened, it just seemed no one noticed it. Thanks jay!

Post Re: Mo' Buta
So very late to the party.

New here. I came to learn. I've liked the giant monstas my entire life and have always made or collected something to do with them, but it's really only in the past couple of years that I've been pursuing the vinyl beauties. They always seemed inaccessible to me for whatever reasons - Price, availability, etc. This all changed in the middle 2000s when I walked in to the now-shuttered House of Monsters in Chicago. It's been a slowly creeping obsession ever since.

Guess when I discovered I'm obsessed with Butanohana? People, I gotta tell you it was today.
I'm not embarrassed that I was almost wholly ignorant of the company until maybe 10 hours ago, but I do now almost wish I'd never seen that picture of the most gorgeous Keronia that's likely ever to be sculpted.

Hundreds of pages of photos later and I'm nearly sick with awe and appreciation. Every single piece I viewed was so unbelievably nice...

I've already devised rules for my imaginary collecting of Buto gold - only kaiju from the original run of Ultraman - but I gather this is going to be a fools errand.

So very very late to the party.

Thanks for listening.

Sadly, you picked the toughest group of Butas releases to focus on. These change hands very infrequently. If you expanded a little to include other Ultra monsters you could pick up Eleking, Mikarus and Goro without too much trouble.

We'll see how the fixation grows. Right now it feels like if I brought those beauties into the house they'd just remind me of my true boyhood love and I'd feel like I was cheating - WXON-TV showed Ultraman five days a week, and it wasn't until my twenties that I even heard of him having a family, let alone a PRE-Science Patrol?!? What?

Who am I kidding - gotta start somewhere! That Mikarus is pretty sweet looking...

So, how long should I wait to post an unrealistic want list so I don't get the "club the newbie!" treatment?

EDIT: I waited 11 days. Nobody clubbed me.

So has anyone seen an unpainted cream (not yellow) buta dino? Early model? proto?

Most likely a test shot. I know which one you are referencing, and that sculpt was never produced in that vinyl color.

Yes, those were pretty interesting, but (and maybe I will regret this later) I passed on this lot out of principle.
