This may have been posted already, but I was looking through Mandarake big auctions...

4MILLION YEN. Anyone have a good explanation for this?

I wish I had seen this when it was live, I would have emailed them to ask. I have never heard of one of these let alone seen one come up for sale but some of the old collectors here in Japan probably have a clue, I need to ask. I know the first version Garamon used to go for nutty prices but the last one I saw I think was about $30,000, this is getting to $45,000. Crazy.

For all you jumbo fans out there, an auction for a beautiful Mach Baron jumbo in excellent condition, complete w/box, just came to a close at 623,000 yen (est. $7,712.46 USD).

http://page10.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/m88681301

IMO I think the Baron jumbos are the best heroes to have in a collection. I guess it's the solid color scheme that breaks away from the red & blue standard that makes them stand above the rest.

That's some serious dough though... jumbo villain dough.

Wooah that MB is insane. Didnt see that auction. Speaking of Baron Jumbos, this one was tough to beat. Almost dead stock condition, not small change either about $4k.

They did a nice wright up on it over at TBDX

Great story! Considering the condition, and the apparent rarity of the Baron jumbos (I see these pop up about as often as the more common jumbo villains), the price doesn't seem all that bad.

I have been meaning to post this one for a while. I thought this King Zaurus store display would fetch more than the ending bid of 378,000 yen...

Actually, I bought that Red Baron for someone, and we completed the deal outside the auction. The seller was open to offers, and at the end of it without getting into specifics...it went above the recent Mach Baron price. The toy and box was minty, which is what prompted it.

Pretty rare Tiger Seven pendant with mask. ¥8,740 is kind of a lot for a pendant (although I think ultraseven with mask is way more).

Was watching this one too. Looks about the same as this one from Mandarake complex for $7,800 ish (of course this was from 09 and this place is notoriously high). Great figure though.

Dude, you and me have the same taste; posted a similar thing over here.

I think the deal is Mego just basically dumped whatever produced pieces they had in bulk to whatever toy distributor they could find. For example, before they closed, Mego was planning some “Logan’s Run” figures. Those figures never saw the light of day buy the outfits/costumes for the figures showed up in bulk discount store play dolls.

Man, I miss those days of crazy toys based on old guys saying “Just get rid of this stuff!”

Really, if you just use the search function all the info you need about translating, bidding, etc. has already been covered in many posts over the years.

Looking for advice with a potential YJA purchase.

First of all, what is the best proxy service to use? The rates seem about the same wherever I look, but maybe some have a better reputation than others?

Secondly, is there any possible way to negotiate a price with a YJA seller? There's this item I'm trying to buy, but the guy has it at an unrealistically high buy it now price on it. (Like twice the going price) Unfortunately, I don't have any other option but to buy it through this guy...I can't find it anywhere else.

Thoughts?

TokyoBuyers, definitely. The guy who runs it is a buddy of ours ("ours" being the robot guys over at TBDX), and we all go through him. He's a solid dude.

As for negotiation, I'm honestly not sure. Can't hurt to ask though...I just have never tried it.

I've done that on a number of occasions. Sometimes they negotiate. Be willing to throw out a price. Too low, they sometimes just ignore you. Sometimes they come back with a counter offer. You'd have to go thru an agent that can speak/write in Japanese...
