Post Canadian Postal Strike
So I've been following this since a week before the lock out (as many of us have packages coming from Canada) and I'm a bit confused about what is being done with the mail that was sent out before the lock out occurred? I send many records through vinyl sales to Canada and I now know the US is not accepting any mail going to Canada but was the outgoing mail a week prior to strike still sent through to the US or is everything still just sitting in a trucks/warehouses etc? I can find no information online about it.

The strike sucks IMO. Judging from all the articles I've read, the postal workers there are well paid as is and the service they deliver is pretty horrible.

It was a rotating strike at first that was only hitting a city or 2 at a time, now, it's full bore and you can't ship in or out.

I would think if something didn't make it out of the country it would be sitting in warehouses. We're supposed to have some HST vote by mail soon so there was talk of forcing them back to work by the end of the week even.

They do get paid well and are lazy as shit from what I've seen heard. I was thinking about getting into the business myself... lol.

So True! And shipping prices are just ridiculously expensive.
I'm still waiting for my Ollie to come but nothing, they better not lose the package if they don't want to burn!!!

Post Re: Canadian Postal Strike
I have to say, I fully admit to not knowing any of the labour unions issues, and could be they have legitimate claims against CP (other that the usual beef that we allllll have with employers I mean...) But I will come out and say that, like similar strikes [and I am looking at YOU Air Canada] I can speak to the service I have received on endless occasions. And here it is: Canada Post is a complete rip-off for shipping rates compared to their delivery lines, and the service that they do off is poor at the good times and extremely horrendous at the worst.

Don't get me wrong, no shipping organisation is going to be without flaws, and of course we are always going to remember the bad experiences over the good, but let me attest that those are ample. Large packages abandoned on doorsteps, completely smashed boxes, gouged import and 'inspection' fees, outright stolen goods :x (I even had stamps ripped off a parcel once), these are just a few. I wouldn't mind it all if I though in the end this strike was gonna benefit the consumer, but, in the end, it will likely be just like the airlines, more for them and even less for us; Mr. Garrison had it right.

All I know is that USPS is terrific. Other than waiting in line at the post office.

I have three packages being tied up by these people.

Apparently, revenue has fallen due to reduced demand for first class mail. Wage cuts have been proposed, and are the cause of grievance.

Yes this is horrible. I have a package of urgency I really have to send to Canada, and it looks like I might have to ship with a much more expensive private company like UPS or FedEx. :(

I've never had any issues with their service personally, only with their unreal pricing. How can it be cheaper to ship to the US than within Canada? Or to cross the border and ship to your neighbor?

No offense but blue collar workers are generally grossly overpaid for the work they do. And unions are crap. Paid over 1000$ in dues last year. Got a mug made in China in return. Wanna bet they didn't check if Labor Laws were followed there?

Ditto (but in reverse)! I'm sure Chris over at GT is happy now.

Man I had a blast reading comments in all the news articles on the strike. People hate the posties in Canada! A few postal employees would try to retort but sounded like complete idiots. Sounds like most of the postal workers are borderline mental midgets.
