 Re: Nagata Tripus
Glad to hear that despite being made in China the actual vinyl is smooth and not that gross matte type like the GID Eyezon or Xam. I am quite turned off by the visibility of the stamps on the tentacles and it is a shame about the glow not being too bright, but other than that it looks really amazing. Thank you for the review Sanjeev!

 Re: Nagata Tripus
Thanks for the comments, guys...and sorry for the late reply! Yeah, I didn't mean to give everyone the wrong impression: this is most definitely a general release figure. I'm actually surprised it's not up on the website yet. Mark just sent me one all nonchalant as though everyone had one already. Shit, and here I was thinking I was late to the party! Anyway, yeah, those stamps certainly stand out, but I don't really mind. If I did, I'd just hit 'em with acetone and a q-tip. If you look at the original photo of Mark's master I posted earlier, you can tell the production piece has a lot more yellow spray to it, while the master seems to have very minimal yellow and much more exposed glow vinyl. Also, the red/pink on the master seems a bit more toned down than on the production one. Still, I love this bastard because of those amazing colors. It's unbelievable on my shelf. And trust me--when you have nuttin' but glowies, a little extra splash of warm colors goes a LONG fucking way! And as for glow power, I think I'll do two things tonight: take a shot of him on my shelf with other glowies just to provide a little comparison...AND pop the figure apart and take some glow shots of the completely unpainted vinyl. That'll settle the mystery once and for all: has Chinese glow vinyl finally caught up with Japanese glow vinyl?

 Re: Nagata Tripus
Okay, Chief Glowologist bakkanaffek... Here's how Tripus looks on the corner of my shelves, where he resides: And here's the same angle...all glowy & shit... Yes, below average, not not too bad at all. There are plenty of other Japanese vinyls (like that M1 Ragon to the left) that are no brighter...and even a few (like the recent Marusan Megalon over his shoulder) that are dimmer. I went ahead and took some more shots with his leg popped off. It's official: the paint is NOT what's blocking the glow light...it's just that there's not a helluva lot in the first place: Here, you can see that the fully exposed glow vinyl of his leg (tentacle?) plug/socket aren't all that much brighter than the rest of the figure...so the paint's just fine. Compared to the M1 Matango and Popy/B-Club Taigon, he's only a little dimmer, but it's still noticeable. And, finally, the true test: unpainted Japanese vinyl versus Tripus...including his unpainted plug/socket. Looks like giant octopus face loses to the sea serpent. Still, Tripus more than adequately holds his own and I'm pleased to have him in my collection.

I dont know if this has been mentioned but someone brought one in the other day. It is SOOOOO heavy. I'd be afraid it would break a detolf.

 Re: Nagata Tripus
Thanks again, guys! Definitely one of my top picks for '09 so far. jojo, hehe...I think those guys are probably sticking around. What I love about the Ragons is how fucking different they are! I don't know anything about the monster other than s/he debuted in Ultra Q, but the M1 clearly looks female...while the giant Popy/B-Club looks male...and a spittin' image of the gillman! And, yeah, that's the Princess Street Guiron (I think nekrodave hooked me up with it, and I seem to recall him using that term). It's filled with glow gravel. Bright as all hell...and the glow lasts for a LONG ass time! The dude behind Ojo is Yamanaya's Yapool. Bitchin' sculpt! One of my faves.

 Re: Nagata Tripus
Great write up Sanjeev, as well as pics to accompany it. I really like this figure alot and was hoping there was going to be less yellow like the paint master you displayed. I thought it might have a chance to make into my pink collection if more of the vinyl showed through. After seeing your pics I'm not so sure it'll fit in though.
Mark didn't mention anything about a pinkish release, did he? It's an outstanding looking piece nonetheless.

 Re: Nagata Tripus
Well, there's little more glow on the way... Heh...but these pics take me back. That was my old apartment! Anyway, here are pics from those days...they seem a lifetime ago...
