probably Kellogg's kubricks whatever year they came out. '99, '00?
unless you count Bandai Godzilla toys, because then it probably would have been '96 or '97.

Not exactly sure what counts as "new style", but for brick type figures it would probably the Microman Myclones and the first Kubricks were a bizarre Tokyu Hands dept store set. Always been a fan of M-1 and Marmit for vinyl.

I refused to buy Kubricks until I saw the VOTOMS ones. Then I bought them and was let down by the quality, so I refused to buy them again.
Then I found the Battle Royale pouch set and bought it. Reflecting back on it afterwards, I was pissed that i had spent so much money on it, so I refused to buy them again.
Then they released the Alien ones, then the Black Hole ones, then the Star Wars ones, and my resolve disintegrated, like with so many other things.

The one with the map and pen light? I love that one. What's not to love about a cute little Beat Takeshi in a tracksuit with a switchblade? I probably overpaid as well, but I dig it. I remember my goal for a short while was to get all the Battlefield Baseball Kubricks. Never did get the Obaa-san, author, or any variants.

actually, the Beat Takeshi kub looks really bad and primitive in conjuction with other releases, if you look at it closely.
totally fun set though. one of my favs.

It was a classic case of buyer's remorse, but I love it now. A lot of people look twice when I wear it at Chiller.
