I probably don't need to chase any other formats (after amassing quite a vinyl collection over only one year into it, with no plans of stopping), so it might just be a fleeting desire. I've got a shitty boombox that I purchased solely to listen to a tape, but does anyone happen to have any input in this department? Know of any good but inexpensive tape decks, etc.? i scored a really nice kenwood dual cassette deck for like 5 or 10 dollars at the goodwill , maybe an option?

Here is my first stab at the black metal screen name... I might try again later on if I can manage another few minutes to slack off. Haha.

 Re: Black Metal
Will check it out posthaste, thanks!
I definitely think it's important to pay respect to the traditional / raw sound, but in my opinion, it can get boring after a while. Don't get me wrong, I love a lot of those bands that paved the way as well as a lot of recent ones, but I also love when bands take certain integral sounds and structures from black metal and rework it with other genres or ideas. Liturgy is one such example of that post-bm style that do it really well. It's really fucking exciting to me. I truly think if Hunter wasn't so outspoken with his pretentiousness, 'transcendentalism,' and silly Ivy league air of condescension (and that no band photos existed, for that matter, so that such a stupid label like 'hipster' couldn't be used against them), then the band wouldn't get nearly as much flack as it does.

 Re: Black Metal
what's stupid? the names in black metal thing? one thing that has always annoyed me about "fanboys" is the fact they get pissed about shit that is a play on their interests. i love black metal. a lot. and making fun of black metal is just as fun/funny as making fun of anything else. including toy collecting. just saying...

 Re: Black Metal
Not pissed at all, I sincerely enjoy a good black metal jab. I put corpsepaint on via Skype this past weekend, for a dumb goof to make someone laugh.
But yes, the name thing is kind of silly, but even moreso than that is newbie psilo110's pointless post. But hey, don't let me rain on any parades.
If you love black metal so much, why is this your first post in here?

 Re: Black Metal
i guess i hadn't realized i have not posted in the black metal thread before. i have posted a few individual black metal related topics before though. mostly, i like a lot of black metal that most black metal fans despise. that, and most of the other stuff is just basic black metal (immortal, xasthur, borknagar, negura bunget, etc) nothing that really has anything "new" to be said about it. yes, n00b psilo110's post was kind of lost on me too. i did, however, highly enjoy bd's! didn't mean to call you out and assume you were pissed. (i have a hard time differentiating the anger-value of posts unless it is straight-forward purple font text. )

 Re: Black Metal
Nagelfar - Srontgorrth:Die Macht erfaßte das meine wie die Angst das Blut der Anderen Very good progressive German bm. Randomly came across this band today and was really impressed.
Necktarium - Dreamblur Shoegaze-bm from Pakistan(!). People who liked some of the other shoegazey bm stuff I have posted would probably enjoy this.
Peste Noire - L'Ordure à l'état Pur Probably my favorite KPN release to date. Famine never disappoints, though.
Also: Falls of Rauros - Hail Wind and Hewn Oak The Ruins of Beverast - Unlock the Shrine (Reliquary of the White Abyss)
Aside from that, I've been listening to a lot of Menace Ruine and Wolvserpent lately. Both are very good drone-doom bands.

Ash Borer are incredible, deafheaven as well. I'd recommend you check out Fell Voices, Velnias and Petrychor. That is, if you're looking for recommendations.

I'm listening to this right now. Very good, thank you for sharing that ! Somehow, it sounds a little like old Múm ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHTFmJk7fH0) I'm a big fan of Menace Ruine's demo and first album. Did you get to ear their Pals, Ensorcelor ?

my first post here was genius. I was going for black on black, but then decided to go with dark red like deathcrush... but darker.
if you don't see it, try revisiting this thread in a few years after listening to your old Burzum records backwards.
also, go fuck yourself. to death.

 Re: Black Metal
ok, I get it.
Human centipede makes a bad black metal album cover and I am an insignificant insect according to despondent cart collecters who smell like cat pee.
carry on.

nefasth -- I haven't heard Ensorcelor, but I will definitely check them out. You don't tend to steer me wrong with recommendations, and I'm very curious if it's Menace Ruine related. Recent-ish deafheaven live video to watch, if you're a fan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKUSNv6hSYkAlso, discovered this artist Oskoreien today. Pretty impressed and ordered both the CD and tape, wish it was pressed on vinyl. http://oskoreien.com/ - free album download

Current favorite band by far. Note: Not an illegal download, this was officially released by the band on their Facebook.
