You hurt me. You hurt me to my heart. I dunno why you do that. Why you push me down on the sidewalk, step on my glasses, and give me melvins? Why?

SO, judging by your ever increasing post count, this must be one of your less busy periods. Hey, you could use this time to finish the long awaited skate decks, starting with mine.

thats true.
this is what has to be done before the sculptor starts his gig
this is the 'master file' for the mongers.
as you can see, its a bit more than a simple sketch.
I wont even get into the part where pics go back and forth for in sculpt corrections.

Not saying Frank doesn't put out some quality stuff, I own a number of his vinyls, just there seems to be alot of noise versus signal lately.
Then again:
I've worked with graphic design studios and many work on the plan of 70-80 percent (whatever number you want) uninspired rote grunt work (say financial materials). Which pays for the other 20-30 percent exciting hip fresh cutting edge (sometimes pro bono) stuff.
So maybe he has that model...

this is correct. In order to make something 'extravagant' like the Mao or the HoChi Minh I also have to make stuff that has wide appeal.
You may not like the mongers, but a whole heck of a lot of people do and the strength of those sales allows Kidrobot to indulge me in things like Mao and the new 16" Stalin piece.
I could not make a living doing just 'really weird stuff only 50 people want' twice a year.
So I make a living AND do weird stuff.
In the old days I would spend most of my time ding purely commercial package design. years and years of it.
now everything I make is 'mine' so to me, I win.
and yes, I really like the Mongers. So does my girlfriend and a lot of other people.
The big ones are going to rule.

yeah the kid factor is interesting. I get a lot of mail about 'my kids are obsessed with your labbits/mongers.'
which makes me pretty happy. I thought parents would be upset but ive only gotten 1 'angry' email about the smoking angle and maybe a couple of hundred where its 'my children took the toys and I had to get them more'.
so maybe in 30 years all those kids will be in their 40's and spending 20,ooo.oo to get that 'Hawaii Smorkin' Melon'.
children...buying toys? *shudder* LOL
