My customs for the FOE Monster Invitational
The FOE show was a blast; had a great weekend overall, and that was a great way to kick it off! My most sincere thanks to Jim and Nicole- they really are great people, doing a terrific job of bringing kaiju culture to their neck of the woods- I highly recommend that you support 'em! I'm working on a full show report which should be up on Garamania tomorrow afternoon... but right now it's hotter than blue hell here, and I really need to step away from the computer. In the meanwhile, I wanted to share my entries for the show. Please excuse me, I know it's a ton of pics, but I'm really proud of this little gang! As always, there's a lot of subtle color/light effects that pics just can't convey (a lot of interference paints used on a couple of of these guys, in particular), but innyhoo... The "not-for-sale"/loaner group (thanks again to all who sent customs back to me for this show!): ... and again, with Gara-eyes blazing from the flash: And here's the "for sale" group... "Shriek of the Wendigyango", a heavily reworked Pilot Ace Gyango... I resculpted/repositioned much of the head; rescultped the teeth in GiD plastic; gave him clear acrylic eyes backed with a reflective white paint; recast the original (way too soft) ears in resin, and affixed real metal tines in the one; sculpted an interior mouth, complete w/ big ol' dangling uvula... and a complete re-paint. I threw in a pic of the original head below for comparison... that's how he looks straight outta the box: "Dichroic Gablar": "Carbona Hedorah": "Who's the Boss: Little Showman Gary"... this guy is a combo of an M1-GO Gary, an M1 Semi-Ningen and a Bandai Ultraman Max Pygmon: And last but not least, "ESP Bagun": Thanks for looking!

Seeing the before and after of the Gyango really puts into perspective how much work went into it! Great 'realistic' stuff.

Re: My customs for the FOE Monster Invitational
Wow! I'm not one for customs - but that Gyango (among others) is more than just a mere custom! Terrificly well sculpted! The resin ears look like they're made from aluminum. And the mouth/eyes are fantastic. Also love what you did with the hands/feet on Gary Ningen! Your customs show a lot of thought and care - there's a REASON behind what you've done. Well done, sir.

"No, no, this isn't right... Oh, I know what's wrong... Maybe if we juust do THIS..."
I love compulsion - this all screams of looking at something and needing it FIXED!!!!
Great work, man. You give 'realistic' a good name.
Almost forgot - Never been a fan of the open-toed shoe, but I've learned it has it's place.

Re: My customs for the FOE Monster Invitational
Thanks for all the kind words, guys! @ Jeff- I have to tell you, the BEST souvenir of the weekend was the vacuformed Greasebat mask we went home with! LOVE it!Pics will be in the show report on Garamania, and I’ll also post here once I get that thing painted up!! @NT- I truly appreciate that, Nat! I do indeed approach every custom I do with a lot of thought and care… my test is always, “If I saw this toy online/in a shop/in a sales thread, would I be excited to add it to my collection?” If it doesn’t meet that criteria, it doesn’t leave my house… at least not until it’s reworked! @tooth- HA! Yes, you nailed it, esp. in regard to that Gyango. I am always looking at toys that way (not that I think every sculpt can be improved upon- quite the opposite). Listen- that guy was sitting in my “in-progress” box for 5 freaking years, in various states of disassembly. I had a vision for him all along, but other things always took precedence over him. When Jim invited me to show, I knew it was the perfect impetus to get this guy out, dust him off and FINALLY do it- really go nuts on him and do the best possible job I could do. Once he was done… I really didn’t want to let him go, I gotta say!
