 Re: Upcoming Be@rbricks
Really? I wouldn't even know that was a kubrick unless someone had told me. I've never been big on the massive re sculpted kubricks though. I have several lines, but my favorites were the pantones. I guess I prefer the be@rbricks in theory, since they are a true platform toy, and kubricks are often mangled and reworked into a totally different toy. As opposed to just putting some paint on it or a different head. 666doll wrote: Russblue11 wrote: I thought the mid-size Rangeas looked weird enough, but the Kubrick just looks pretty awful...tell me they at least put a tail on it I think the integrity of both designs is still in tact.

I think it lost all of its Kubrick-ness and just looks a mess. Resculpting the Kubrick past a certain degree just misses the point entirely. In other words, I think that Rangeas is garbage. The Popeye Be@r looks funny, but at least you know what it is. I kinda like the Beetle Bailey behind him though. Kinda...

 Re: Upcoming Be@rbricks
It was my understanding that the Kubrick was Medicom's first platform toy and then Be@rbrick.
In the past they would sculpt an entirely new head to go over top the Kub rounded, flat-topped head. You know, so you could have both head styles ideally. They seem to have stopped that, opting for just the design head. The body type is the same with some alterations, but I think if you're familiar with either, Kubs or Be@r's you can figure it out. I still like this design, but I feel it would be pretty cool if the Rangeas head lifted off to reveal an original Kubrick head. Just painting the design onto a Kubrick would get lost, wouldn't you agree?
At the end of the day, Kubrick's and Be@rbrick's are glorified Playmobile/Leggo character figs afterall.
I still like this Rangeas Kubrick. My favorite of all time though is the Eames Kubrick.

 Re: Upcoming Be@rbricks
I like the heads that slip over the kubrick head. But the kubricks have gotten to the point that its not even a base figure with accessories to change it. The old boy/girl sets were great examples of dressing up a kubrick.

Not everything works on a Kubrick / Be@rbrick. If you can't make it work with just paint & accessories, or a minor re-sculpt, then it shouldn't happen.

Sorry that I keep saying that. ---NT--- wrote: 666doll wrote: Just painting the design onto a Kubrick would get lost, wouldn't you agree? I also agree with that. Maybe this would be seen in a better light had they created two heads for it. The Rangeas head that slipped over the basic Kub head. None of this means dick in the grand scheme of things since Medicom can care less, especially for the Western market. Hell, we don't even see the Be@rbrick series until they've been released in Asia for two months before

 Re: Upcoming Be@rbricks
lol No need to apologize for what you like, its just that this is one of those pieces, for me, that I can look at and say, ugh this is everything I find wrong with kubricks.
I have to admit owning way more be@rbricks than kubricks for that simple fact. Though I still need the 1000% bxh. ugh.

 Re: Upcoming Be@rbricks
I gotta agree. If you're going to do 6 new sculpts you might as well make a whole new figure. The little bits of kubrick that show through just look awkward.

 Re: Upcoming Be@rbricks
I’ve never been a big fan of most of the Halloween bricks, but lately they are getting more and more interesting. Looking forward to the pumpkin fella.
On a different note, had some catching up to do with a lot of Bearbrick releases and I noticed that more and more 100% models are keychain/phone strap versions. I find that extremely annoying. From a collectors point of view I would want to display them properly without this annoying key chain. The 50 and 70% were already difficult to display, but fair enough, that was an entirely different concept.
I’m mostly into the 100%s and I simply don’t like this “everything is a key chain/phone strap” trend. What about you?

 Re: Upcoming Be@rbricks
I don't have any of these keychain ones. Are the chains permanent or detachable like the [expletive deleted]?

 Re: Upcoming Be@rbricks
Hm, that would be interesting to know. From the looks I'd say they are not meant to be removed, but I've also seen several pictures of these Be@rbricks were no key chain was visible, so people must have removed them somehow. Question is if that's only for picture purposes? Is the head looking slightly "ruined" when removing them? Maybe someone knows and can give us more details... until then I'm hesitating to buy any of them.

 Re: Upcoming Be@rbricks
Not sure about BB, but a lot of designer toys have got keychains which you can unscrew. Might be a long shot, but the Kaws keychains were like that, and they're produced by Medicom. I've removed the keychains on mine and they look fine...

Good to know, thanks!
Anyone else having some of these Be@rbricks and can confirm?

 Re: Upcoming Be@rbricks
They are nice without the keychain. You can easily remove it and it will just leave a tiny hole at the top of the head. I took a picture for you, a 70%, it will probably do the same with a 100% :

 Re: Upcoming Be@rbricks
Thanks for taking a pic for me, Moshi! Not so bad indeed. And I definitely have to get the Star Wars bricks I was on a break for way too long, the sheer amount of Be@rbricks released is insanity. Will try to focus and complete more of the early years in our collection, 2001-2005/6 with 100%s mostly. Collectors are probably going for some specific types/designer or sizes only since being a completist in regards to BBs seems to be not very realistic Merci beaucoup!

 Re: Upcoming Be@rbricks
Nice, looking forward to meet more collectors.
Input from collectors like him and everyone in the community is really invaluable for our Be@rbrick database. Hoping to get some feedback on changes and new features we are going to implement soon. Still working on design revamp and adding releases. Any feedback on FB and Twitter is more than welcome.
