Can anyone lend any tips (technique, lighting, situ, camera settings...?) to get the best results?

I use Manual setting ISO 80 - set to 15 second shutter speed (with the macro turned on so you get nice close up detail) i don't have a tripod so i use a big lump of blue-tack to keep the camera in place - its surprisingly effective. Also, sometimes i put the figures on a shiny surface so you get a nice glow reflection . . . . .

Not to mention the trial and error involved would have me seeing red. Great pics from photographers with much patience!
