Re: Grody Shogun - New Stuff
I'm really disappointed that I totally missed these guys. I remember seeing pictures of the box full of them, but i thought they were lot smaller than they actually are so I just skimmed past them...

This is right on the money for the Karu... I can't think of another toy with the same rough hewn-rock texture, and I really love it. It makes him really stand out from the typical 'soft' hand-sculpted figures.

Me too.^^^ Paint should bring another dimension to an already fun bunch of sculpts. I am loving everything about Ojisan and his Karakuri. But I think the eyes are what really kills it for me. Especially on the original pair.

I didn't want to burden them too much. so it was just no white parts for me. When I open up the box I was blown away. Couldn't ask for more.

Re: Grody Shogun - New Stuff
I know this is probably pretty late to be asking this, but shouldn't this thread be in the American Idols section?
The question isn't meant in a negative way, as Luke, er, Grody's work is cool...but if this thread is in Japan Toys, then why not several other American artists who have their toys cast in Japan? Is it a residence thing? I'm confused.
Maybe the lines are now so blurred there should just be a "toys" section on here now...
As you were.

Re: Grody Shogun - New Stuff
Luke lives, works and makes toys in Japan. He has been living there for some time now. I think that makes it qualify for Japan Toys status. m3kcomp wrote: I know this is probably pretty late to be asking this, but shouldn't this thread be in the American Idols section?

Re: Grody Shogun - New Stuff
I'm fully aware of the cred, just wondering where the lines are these days...or perhaps wondering if there should be any lines at all anymore, especially since the majority of the toys we discuss on this board are made in Japan - which feels like the most important indicator for the folks here, no? I'll probably go back into my shell after this post but I've been thinking about this for a bit now...there doesn't seem to be much of a need for labels anymore, eh? Re: Grody Shogun - New Stuff
It's a good point. Most, if not all, of the American Idols(ugh) toys are technically Japan Toys as well. Pushead, MVH, PK, etc. I personally don't pay much attention to what the toys could be labeled. I buy what I like. Mostly, I think the different forum labels here are meant as a helpful guide to what might be found inside. Not as a classification for the toys or makers therein. The only toys I think really belong only in the American thread are toys made in America. So to answer (I think) your original question: Where the toys are made, and what methods are used while making them, is most important to me.

Re: Grody Shogun - New Stuff
Actually its a legit question and I remembered this was being discussed somewhere. My personal stance on this is: Created by anybody, mold, vinyl and pulled in Japan= Made in Japan= Japan Toys. Created by Japanese in Japan, made in China or whatever= NOT made in Japan, reluctantly classified under Japan Toys m3kcomp wrote: I'm fully aware of the cred, just wondering where the lines are these days...or perhaps wondering if there should be any lines at all anymore, especially since the majority of the toys we discuss on this board are made in Japan - which feels like the most important indicator for the folks here, no?
