The sellers market, and rude people...
Does anyone else get sick of seeing people buy things here, and then jack the prices up at their sellers account on E-bay... Another one I'm getting hot about lately are people that buy stuff here for really good prices, then take them over to other forums and sell them for 3 times what they paid for them here. It's like a lot of people take advantage of the goodwill of others here, and it just really bums me out. I made a rude comment about a guy a couple of months ago, that I immediately took down, because I felt it was none of my business, but it was basically "Oh great another great deal _____ can sell over at the KR forums. (It was 3 really nice smoguns for 17 bucks) He contacted me saying that they were going in his personal collection. I wrote him back saying that it was none of my business what he does, and I had already taken my comment down. I felt bad, until I saw the 3 Smoguns listed for 25 bucks a piece, at another forum (same guy).
I know it's nobodies business besides the seller and the person buying, but it's kind of sad. If I wanted to supply a small store I could do it with all the great deals people post here, but because of common courtesy, I pass on things all the time, even if it's something I want, and I know one of the "Elders" here have been looking for it, I pass it down the line.
Is this just a common practice in life that I missed out on a long time ago, money is so meaningless to me that I just can't see myself trying to make it off the backs of peoples good deeds...

Re: The sellers market, and rude people...
It's funny because, I've been there I'd say 3 times in the past 6 months, and every time I left with a bitter taste in my mouth... There's just so much silly bickering that goes on there. I know the same thing happens here but, at least 99% of the time it's intelligent. There, it's just filled with "My dad could beat up your dad" mentality, and It's to gangsta for my taste.

Re: The sellers market, and rude people...
It reminds me of this crazy pattern that emerged at our favorite local thrift store. Every week they would phase out clothing that had been in the store for four weeks by having two half price days followed by a 99 cent day. On that day, this huge crowd of women would like up way before the store opened and as soon as they got in, would just start pulling every 99 cent item off the racks. Especially the men's clothes. They would have carts jam packed with stuff. Almost certainly they were buying stock for a garage sale the following weekend. It was like locusts descending on the fields. Eventually, the store stopped doing the 99 cent thing, which was a bummer for me because prior to this whole thing starting, I did most of my shopping those days! Granted, the thrift store is not a community of people with common interests like Skullbrain, but flippers are irritating no matter where they appear.
And I damn well appreciate every good deal I've gotten on this board. Even the toys I've wound up selling later, I never charge more than I paid in the first place.

Re: The sellers market, and rude people...
Maybe it is just me (and you) but this is a total personal peeve of mine. I can't understand the motive behind it; well I can logically, I just can't get it, you know. I alsmot use SB exlcusively, so I have not seen this happen a lot on other forums, but I have no doubt that it is frequent, and I have definitely seen the whole fleabay thing. Flipping as a whole just gets my goat, and I have tried as much as I can to identify certain sellers and avoid buying from them. Sure, to them it probably makes no difference, but I want to limit their profit stream as much as possible.

Re: The sellers market, and rude people...
We have a really free market in Grand Rapids, where instead of donating our items, we pass them along to other people in the community that could get use out of them... For instance when I was in school and taking a few semesters of film classes, I picked up an entire darkroom for free, then when I was done with it, I passed it on to other kids that needed it... We would advertise in a few different local papers, and zines, until the local news station picked up on it... After that happened a few people started coming and filling up a minivan with whatever they could fit in, which in and of itself would have been fine, except the next weekend they were selling the stuff at a local flea market... What we all did was a lot of work, we would do a Vegan potluck, and set up blankets, and tables, and giving away really nice and sometimes expensive things, and it felt akin to being robbed... We still do it now, but it's really went back to being a spur of the moment/flash mob style free fest...

Re: The sellers market, and rude people...
I've bought 90% of my S7 stuff off here and it all goes straight into my personal collection and all the prices have been excellent and so far only one item is a no show and that was from Japan....and it may still be in transit.
Going on ebay and seeing common mini mummyboys for US$50 is insane especially when skullbrainers will often sell commons for as low as a tenner on a good day to me and I'm sure people do a lot better in deals all the time.
Every forum has it share of cocks....you just have to think of it as quirks. I'm sure I've bought some gear off you Sstar and I'll buy more if you have what I'm after.

Re: The sellers market, and rude people...
You buy stg for 17$, turns out you don't like it, you sell it back at what you paid + shipping + Paypal fees at 25$, still half retail. What's the problem? With this and other posts (I'm thinking of the Show me your Pink thread), you sound like a newbie trying hard to prove something. You've proved you're self-righteous, bravo.

Re: The sellers market, and rude people...
I don't necessarily think its an attack on people selling in the board and trying to break even so much as it was saying something like hey if you bought it on sb for a decent price you should sell it on SB for a decent price not take it somewhere else to gain profit off of other peoples sense of community or to ebay to create a web business out of this community...

calling these people "rude" is an understatement. "opportunistic asshole" seems more apropos.

For what it's worth, I believe the example ss1 gave in his post was about a 3 toy lot, scored here for $17, being sold for $25 each, $75 total, over there. If we assume both listings were offered post paid, and said buyer turned seller sent out the toys 3 ways, that's still $20 a toy for him to keep, or more than 3 times the price paid for each here. You're still welcome to judge slipstar1 for speaking his mind, though.

See I was thinking the same thing that logic of slight increase to break even is just a slow incline that eventually makes the product like a hill to steep... With that said i do go back to the original idea that if you have something to get rid off sell it on the board for a very fair price not on ebay to turn a profit especially if you got it on the board... Heck i just sent ed (useless toys) two s7 missles from sdcc he was asking for them i said sure... He went and checked ebay said they were going for 13 I said what does that have to do with anything and sent them on me... Told him if he feels the need to return the favor he can if not no worries no skin of my nose... It's a community first.

Re: The sellers market, and rude people...
I totally get the price bump to cover costs of acquiring the goodies in the first place idea, but what I was pointing out is that in the example that started this thread the profit margin was over 300%, rather than being an example of the understandable ladder of price increase as the toys pass through more sets of hands.

Quote: You buy stg for 17$, turns out you don't like it, you sell it back at what you paid + shipping + Paypal fees at 25$, still half retail. What's the problem? With this and other posts (I'm thinking of the Show me your Pink thread), you sound like a newbie trying hard to prove something. You've proved you're self-righteous, bravo. Usually "Self-Righteous" is a phrase used for attacking people that live a faith based life. I guess that proves atheists, can have ethics after all. When I say money is meaningless to me, it's because I spent 9 years of my life, giving every last cent of my money to drug dealers, now that I'm clean money means nothing to me because for that time period I had nothing. Am I self righteous because I agree with the consensus that this a largely a Kaiju board, and photos of collections that have no Kaiju in them whatsoever, don't really have a place. Do I have western toys, yes. Do you see me posting photos of any of them? Hell the reason I've waited so long to post a photo was A: I've been using a bum computer (my wifes) and B: I didn't want to bore everyone with another Garga/Bwana/Merde collection photo (We've all know what my Hawaii Mummy Boy looks like). If the Idea of me being a part of the Really, Really, Free-Market makes me a self righteous person, than maybe we should all be self righteous. Part of the reason, that I've never been good at different professions is because I'm always helping out my friends. i.e. engagement photo's, building decks, and remodeling houses, touching up peoples toys, working on peoples cars, etc. if there's something I can do to help someone that needs it, I try to. It bums me out to see this happen time and time again, I think 25 dollars is more than a fair price for a smogun, (it bums me out to see them go so cheap sometimes), but I don't think it was fair for him to lie to me and make me feel bad about what I said "Looks like ____ bought another to to sell on the KR forums", because that's why it was purchased, as evident by him waiting less than a week to put it on his sale page there. Someone just asked me to do them a favor here and I'll try and do it, because I have the ability to, if we don't help out other people than there isn't a point. Personally I like to think I have the spirit of a true communist. I believe that we're all equals, I don't think I'm better than you, or that you deserve more than me. I feel like I'm starting more crap by talking about things lately so I'm just going to shut things off for awhile, I was just getting sick of having my highest post count be in the FS section. I'm not talking a game man, this is just who I am, and if there's anything you ever need, and I see that I can help you with I won't hesitate to give you a hand...
