Post Bicycles
I've been looking around for a folding bike. Zoomed in on either a Dahon or Bike Friday and if I'm willing to part with even more $$$ a Moulton.

Dahon's more affordable but I'm really worried about the frame as its from China. there's been a few recalls due to the strength of the steel.

Bike Friday's is really great from what I've read. Any SB'ners own one? What I like about it is that its 100% made in Oregon.

Same for Moulton. Excellent bike 100% UK but it's like the Jaguar of folding bike, $$$$$!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know much about moultons,,,but I can vouch for bromptons...

Really nice foldies,,,but seeing how much they cost in the UK,,they might be too expensive elsewhere...

This is a 2speed...costs £720,,, but well worth it!!!

Ok,,,just looked into moultons,,,they look nice but the prices

No wonder you don't see them on the streets of london!!

Bromptons are considered the high end of foldies here...you see tons of people riding them but nobody locking them up...

No wonder moultons are no where to be seen

Yeah, Bromptons are great too. But I'm looking at 20" wheels.

Some of the Bromptons are pricier than Moultons. Guess they have a wider price range.

ohh,,i was thinking of the clown size foldies only!!

yes,,bromptons are avilable from 2 to 7 gears...so £720 is the base price...going up from there

on a side note,,here is my new baby:

Image

i ride it 20miles to&from work everyday..a slow starter but a killer cruiser!!

28" wheels,,coaster brake,,single gear (18tooth sprocket)..it's origins are unclear,,1950s utility bike either from holland or switzerland...

it was as cheap as chips,,but i had to replace the back wheel,,,which could only be ordered from holland and was a bit of a hassle...but well worth it :)

Edit: I'm stupid

I made the decision to buy a Brompton today because it makes perfect sense to me. Riding a bike makes me happier than most things right now, and most of my money went into toys. My collection isn't that big anyway and I'd rather have fewer toys than hoard...I've seen quite a few board members take this approach and have been reading this "textbook" called "Presentation Zen" that's helped improve my outlook on things

I will post pics of my new Brompton when it arrives in about 4-6 weeks :D

Seriously? Are you saying I belong on KR or something? :?

I think he was referring to you going on a bicycle forum instead of a toy forum. One obsession leads to another;)

LOL Interesting you jump to the KR assumption...
But no. That was not what I was saying.

LS hit it on the head.

But I did not mean to derail this thread. Back to bikes.

Just curious kurumonz, what are the reasons you want a folder over a traditional sized bike? A couple of my friends have owned their Dahon folders for over 2 years now and nothing has gone wrong with them. But if you are willing to shell out the cash for one, I would definitely go USA made bike.

Post Re: Bicycles
Hey Mike,

We are really tight on space here. I'm talking about 1100 sqft share by four and tons of toys (surprise :D ).

Bitten by the bike bug (way to go Russblue 11) and have been spending really unhealthy amount of time on the web scouring info. At least, I've kinda got over my fixation on toys (sort of). Haven't cycled for the past 26years but since getting a bike, have been doing it nearly everyday!

Dahon's really popular in Singapore. Best seller for foldies. But I've decided to support the smaller outfits over the big guns. We need to keep the small/indie shops running.

I've been drooling over the traditional size bike too. Not ruling them out. At the rate I'm going, I definitely see myself owning one in the future.

Biking is really popular now in Singapore (about time too). Works are being carried out to link the entire island with bike path, awesome. I'm really glad the government is showing interest and making the effort.

I succumbed to a Moulton TSR w/ Sturmey Acrher 8-speed internal hub. I've just replaced the handlebar with a SOMA Sparrow, beautiful handlebar!!! I've also ordered a Bike Friday Tikit and should be collecting that end of the week. Really excited!
