Re: Has anyone else noticed a trend...?
for me, i have 2 main collections.
1). the stuff that this forum focuses on: japan vinyl!
2). 80s action figures (mostly motu and motu ko's)
its like a cycle, but not a conscious one. i mean, i don't one day wake up and decide i've been hitting skullbrain bst and searching gargamel for awhile, its time to transfer over to 80s action figures. its a slow progression. and one that kind of helps me focus on the other. when i'm hitting vinyl pretty hard, i start back into it usually when i find a grail pop up (the most recent being the unpainted white flocked skullwing), and i grab it. hunt for a few more grails that left my mind for awhile. move onto checking out the new stuff from my favorite companies, and then i get locked in. eventually, i'm buying tons of stuff that i have been thinking about collecting, or something that has caught my interest before and shows up at a price i can't pass on. etc. after awhile, the flame goes down. it doesn't die, just sort of gets monontonous (hunting for the same things over and over, making a want list and as it dwindles from picking stuff up it keeps growing) and i start checking out my action figure forums and hunting remco stuff on ebay. the one action figure grail that pops up kind of pulls me back in that direction, and the cycle goes on.
now, as for how this helps me focus each collection, its this: when i'm "active" in the vinyl hunting, i will stand back and look at my collection on occassion and really can't figure out what could be sacrificed. nothing looks out of place, all are equally awesome. but when i'm in 80s action figure hunting mode, and something totally awesome pops up, i read over the vinyls and end up finding those 3 or 4 figures that can move on to new homes so i can afford the new action figure find. and it works vice versa. so yeah, its a system. its pathetic. but i like it.
