Damn jcat, I'm super jelly I requested clear or the the reddish but got the blue. I'll have to post up some pics. If you flip UB's head and legs around and position his arms right it totally looks like hes swimming!

Had to post this. I bought the $200 package.
Only problem is I HATE this color scheme. UGH!
Quite possibly the worst colors ever. SK is amazing and I have a couple 1 offs that are mind blowing.
BUT.........time to sell or trade. I may even trade for a blank.

Reminds me of some vintage style kaiju paint applications. I really like it, but then I like a lot of color combinations that others might find 'ugly.' To each their own, but I'd be smitten with that if I got it.

The vintage look is a yes and it may appeal to some people. But I can understand the dislike if expecting some of the outrageous/vibrant paint schemes as previously posted.

I can see him not being into it on this sculpt. I like the figure, I like the paint, but these 2 are really different styles. This paint would work better on Gargamel or a PK figure or something that gives a bit more of a nod to vintage figures. It's like rap-metal, 2 things I like on their own but when combined, not my thing.

Well said. I mean that paint app just aged the toy about 40yrs, and I'm not sure if its in a good way. Almost would make me want to sandblast it, and give it that aged/worn toybox look.
Definitely unexpected. Maybe acquired taste.

I think it's a pretty good paint app. Reminds me of something BEMON would do.

I think it's one of the best so far.

It's one of those paint apps that you will get and appreciate the longer you collect.

I really like this, and if you want to give it up I'll take it.

I think its acquired taste, which definitely has grown on me a bit upon staring at it more. Like you said, definitely something that will grow with age. Reminds me of some of the rare, old vinyl I've seen on YJA with the old colorway.

i could see this maybe working on a smoother flatter surface, but not on this. It's doesn't work with the sculpt at all. and it's not just the scheme, the paint application looks like a rush job to me compared to the others.

Good to see so many different opinions though, at least it means that you can trade it.

still, 200 clams, i'd be annoyed. my dislike for this sight-unseen pre-order purchasing trend is growing.

And it would RULE on a Bemon. My problem isn't with the colors, it's the figure-color combo. I don't think every sculpt works with every style. I just don't see it as copy-and-paste (not saying you, or anyone else in particular, does) but this paint would be perfect on a Bemon or any Gargamel figure (or the bear model hedorah i've seen it/a similar paint on.) I don't feel for it on this, I also wouldn't like it on a Pushead Pirate or a Zollmen Mad Baron for instance. Again, 2 things I like but dislike when put together.

I agree with both of you. The problem is I started collecting the new sofubi sculpts and it just appeals to me more.
The older vintage stuff I never got use to nor could I afford it now anyway.

Did anyone here score that Hawaii? Really liking the green on the wings and the general take on the color scheme.

As far as classic colorways go, Hawaii looks amazing on him.

I did - unfortunately, I've never been much into vintage or hawaii-ish paintschemes. Still debating whether to keep the blank (got a blue one) or not, but I 'll most likely put one or both up in the BST within the next couple of days due to financial and, more importantly, spatial constraints (King Enma The Humongous just kicked down my door today )...

That said, I still think this was a great project that I'd happily support again anyday. The surprise was definitely part of the fun even though I didn't get what I had hoped for and I think it's obvious that a lot of love went into this, down to the extra heads and the little hand-signed notes from Amy & Luke in each package.
